Positives: 1. Helpful staff 2. Close to major business centers (Moscone...) 3. Helpful staff (I wrote it again, because they go out of the way to make your stay comfortable) Negatives: 1. Unclean rooms 2. Cockroaches 3. No proper ventilation 4. One bathroom for every 20 rooms 5. One toilet for every 20 rooms (really??? I am not exaggerating, btw...)... More

This hostel is far from satisfactory for what you pay for it. If you don't mind spending $80 a night and wasting a can of axe phoenix to drown out the stench of damp and cigarettes and heroin, this poorly lit den would still not be for you. The hand crafted pattern of burn marks from drug usage on the... More

Upon reading reviews here, I became quite uneasy about my reservation, but like every place I stay, I go in with an open mind. My opinion of the bad reviews is these people were used to accommodations like you would find at a Hampton inn or holiday inn. I paid 75$ after taxes and everything. Upon arrival at the property,... So basically a warning, i work with homeless back home. This is not a backpackers hostel. It's a homeless shelter, just in the usa the only option is to pay for yourself. The staff were lovely, but i found 6 needles ( admittedly capped) in the women's shower this morning. The saving isn't worth it, stay somewhere else. A desperate... More

As mention from our fellow reviewers, you get basic lodging for what you pay. Rooms smell with shared bathroom on both floors which have not been cleaned & maintain for a while. We were greeted by dog poo on the landing leading to the rooms due to an occupant owning 3 pets. On the good note, wifi is in great... More

This hostel was a complete disaster! The location an sich is very central in the city, but it is located in Tenderloin, where all of the homeless people are. The hostel is filthy, the rooms are small, the bed is not comfortable at all! I didn't even take a shower in the morning, as it was just too dirty. The... More

When we were checking in, we heard a woman screaming down the corridor and so turned to see what was going on. The man who was arguing with the woman asked us if we "here to protect her" and if we were going to "take it outside". We informed him we were not. One morning, I was awoken by the... More

We chose the hotel for the best price and for apparently good location in downtown san francisco. We have expected ugly and small rooms but the place even exceded our expectations. The whole place stinks like urine. The rooms are small and consist of one small bed and are very dirty and ugly. There is no wifi in the rooms. It... More

We chose the cheapest option we could find so we were definitely not surprised! The 'hotel' or motel or what ever you would like to call it is mostly rented for long term stays or for housing. First the positive aspect: the room wasnt as bad as i expected after seeing and smelling the rest of the building. Yes we... More

I'm all for a crappy room at a bargain price, but I don't think I've ever experienced something this bad. I was aware my room would be basic and bathroom would be shared. I was thinking similar to a hostel. I thought not too bad for $55. Well when we checked in there were people everywhere...but it looked like homeless... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
