Know what you are getting. Great staff, not just helpful, but very nice. Clean, decent, nice art, good bed. Small room, no elevator, neighborhood (not in the middle of touristy area).Price is right. Our third stay, look forward to our next.

I love the location close to Penn Station, Macy's and all the subway stops. It was very clean, quiet on the back, nicely decorated room, comfortable beds although our pillows were too thick for us. Breakfast was fine. We will stay here again.

We very much enjoyed our stay here, it was quite a way out from the more touristy parts of san francisco, so every day we enjoyed a long walk over the hilly streets of San Francisco. If you are visiting as a tourist you may find it a little bit too far out, but if you want to be in... More

My wife and I (from west central Illinois) stayed at The Metro April 2-6, 2015. We had heard about it from relatives who have stayed there several times. They spoke highly of it...and rightfully so we soon learned. The registration staff was friendly, inviting, and helpful. The rooms were small but very clean and comfortable. The housekeeping staff was very... More

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights and we found this place to be much nicer than a different (more expensive) hotel we've stayed at in SF. I truly have nothing negative to say about our stay. The staff was great; the room was very clean; comfortable bed for 2; wifi; great restaurants and bars near by; free... More

My boyfriend & I stayed at Metro Hotel for 4 nights. While it was a "frugal" hotel, we couldn't have been happier. It was EXTREMELY clean & the staff was incredibly friendly & helpful. The room we stayed in was fairly small with a full size bed, but that bed was very comfortable & had lots of pillows. Each side... More

We found a great rate at this small, intimate hotel. It was in a great location, with close proximity to bars, restaurants, Alamo Square, Golden Gate Park, and much more! The staff were super friendly, letting us drop our bags with them since we arrived early. Our room was very simple, which is all we ever need since we spend... More

Me and my brother shared double room with two twin size bed's. we had a little TV and a good-sized bathroom. My parents stayed in the queen sized bed in their room also had... More

I traveled solo to San Francisco for some good old R&R (and to escape Boston's awful weather). Not only was the hotel in a spectacular location close to public transportation, bars, local restaurants & cafes, and shops, the staff was amazing! They were all extremely welcoming and helpful. I look forward to coming back!

Upon entering my room, it struck me as pretty plain. And it is. There are no frills, like toiletries, hair dryer, etc. but the room and bathroom were spotless. Not often do you find a decent hotel room for this price. It worked great for me because it is located in a residential neighborhood, as opposed to downtown, and very... More

Staying in Haight-Ashbury

Neighborhood Profile
Haight-Ashbury
The area surrounding the intersection of Haight and Ashbury streets, “The Haight” still exudes vibes of the 1960s counterculture as a haven for vintage clothes, music, pop posters and body piercing shops. While the Summer of Love ended decades ago, Haight-Ashbury has turned into a melting pot of hippies, hipsters, and professionals. Walking through its streets can still feel like stepping back in time. A must-see neighborhood for most music fans, it’s easy to see why these streets attracted the likes of the Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin. You’ll likely be content in The Haight day or night, just be sure to wear some flowers in your hair.
