I had a group of 15 at the hostel. Two of us stayed in a private room, the beds were extremely comfortable. The kids all really enjoyed the bathrooms attached to each room and also said the rooms were clean! The 5Ghz internet was fast. A couple of negatives; fruit and their pancake/egg breakfast wasn't always available. The 2.4 GHz... More

Loved the inside of the hostel. Was clean, cute and the staff was friendly. The only problem is that it is in the "Tenderloin" district- which is the most dangerous area of all of San Francisco. We were not aware of this before our stay, so that was a huge surprise. Right outside the hostel the area has a huge... More

Thank you for staying with us and for taking the time to leave a nice review! We are located in the tenderloin district, a neighborhood that has always been infamous for the social services it provides to those in need, as well as for it's amazing ethnic food and vibrant arts and music scenes. I trust the hostel itself was... More

English/Español As you grow older you may tend to avoid Youth Hostels, rather stretch the budget, and even more if its nearby the Tenderloin in SanFCO. But I actually had a very comfortable stay, in a private room with little to envy a chain 3 stars hotel. Everything is austere as in most Youth Hostels but the staff makes an... More

Thank you for your lovely and thorough review! We love having fun, brave, and adaptable guests like you to stay, as you guys really make our hostel the vibrant and cozy place it is. I also really appreciate your pragmatic view of our neighborhood, there are great highlights even among some harsh realities. Do come back and visit us again... More

Firstly this is a really cool, comfortable, functional hostel. We stayed in a private room on the sixth floor with our own ensuite and as seems to be the case with private rooms at hostels there was no TV. Which was ok by us. The sad part is, it is in a very dodgy part of town. Even on the... More

I have stayed here twice, once with my wife and young son and once solo. Both times have been an exceptional stay. Much like many HI's this one is family friendly. In fact, we had parcels sent here before we arrived and they stored them for us. The parcel was our 'travel crib' which we purchased online!! This HI had... More

This review is based on a private room. The room was just as good as a midrange hotel for double the cost elsewhere in the city. The location is within walking distance to several public transportation points. The one concern that may bother some is that this hotel is on the border of a district that is associated with drug... The neighborhood is very eclectic. I'm glad our staff were honest with you about the realities many people face in this area, but that you were... More

The room was really clean. The staff is so nice!!! There's a great bar where you can meet new people!! The hostel is near to a lot of stuff!! But, the location is so so. Sometimes, we were afraid to walk at night, but nothing happen! I think it's only ellis street where it feels not safe because we didnt... More

I had a great stay in the HI City Center. I was just there one night to get to the airport in the AM, and it was clean and comfortable. I would have loved to go out at night, but the location is in the Tenderloin district, which has high levels of homelessness and violence. A girl was even assaulted... More

We had a private room for 5 people. It was adequate and exactly what you would expect from a youth hostel. The staff were nice and very helpful, but the location is, colourful, to say the least. Many in my party felt unsafe in the street surrounding the area and we were advised not to walk at night in a... More

Thank you for your review! I'm sorry you didn't love our location, though glad to hear you found our staff friendly (they are!) and seem to have had a good time with us anyhow. That earthquake was a doozy! I know it was scary for all of us, but we will still take credit for helping you to have a... More

This hostel is a converted hotel and has an amazing kitchen. At breakfast I felt like I was living in a movie, so many people, so many walks of life all enjoying fresh bagels, fruit and decent coffee. The rooms have mini lights, chargers (even USB chargers) and a mini shelf at each bed (AMAZING feature btw) and private bathrooms.... More
