This hotel is very basic but very good value for money. It is very close to the main shopping areas which was what we wanted. Room was basic but clean. Staff were pleasant but strict on the no guests policy. If i was looking for cheap, centrally located accommodation I would stay here again

First i want to say if that your girlfriend or spouse tells you to go cheap.....do not go for this. First of all, the biggest concern for me here was parking. This place was right in the center union square which is great but if you think finding free parking nearby is easy....it is not. Most of the reviewers here... More

The hotel was built in 1912 and looks like it too. The room I resided in was filthy and small, (walk sideways if you weigh over 100 lbs.). The heater is a water heater from the 30's, which is managed by the hotel staff instead of the customer. I was cold all of the time and was told to wait... More

The location is quite good but you can find something much better than this terrible hotel. It simply looked like one of the classical hotel you may find in a horror movie. The elevator has a stinky carpet on the walls with a creepy background music (can you remember the videogame flatout? yes. that.) When we entered the room we... More

Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent location, with easy [BART] access to/from SFO airport, and around SF city on public transport: easy walking distance to Union Square and SFMOMA. Had a room at the back which was really quiet; rooms on the street were very noisy. Room was not huge but had an en suite and had everything we needed.... More

At first, I already psyched up myself with all the reviews that I have read with this hotel but when I arrived here last Oct. 22, 2011 and stayed at room 422 to attend the American College Of Surgeons. I was so thankful and grateful for the warm accomodation of the hotel staff to nale Mr. Lou, Elsa and if... More

A very nice experience. We took a room with bathroom included. It is an old building, no luxe but well kept. Very secure, there was a person watching 24 hours a day. The room was clean but very simple. Coffee and donut in the morning...if you like donuts. If you like real café and real french croissants, chocolatine etc. Try... More

I was originally scheduled to stay in a private condo during a recent trip to San Francisco, but the condo owner had to cancel at the last minute. Scrambling for a backup plan (my trip was a week away), I searched many travel search engines to find a replacement in the area of the city I wanted and at a... More

staff was friendly, room was OK. The "queen size bed" was rather small (esp. for american standards) but OK. Only one toilet at our floor which made it a bit crowded. Plus for the sink in the room! Not very noisy and relatively clean... minus for the old carpets and dust... warning for sensitive people! annoying point was that elevator... More

I stayed here after a show at the Warfield. As a bay area native, I really appreciate the location, good and bad. It's within walking distance of almost everything. Kinda seems like a party hotel for broke young kids... So if this is your thing, it's all good. Far from clean, but charming. You'll want to get drunk before laying... More
