I would stay here again because the staff was very friendly and the location is convenient for access to public transportation in San Francisco, including the BART and MUNI. Also, the hotel has character because it is very old. According to a plaque in the Lobby, the hotel was built in circa 1912. With all of that being said, the... More

The area it's in is a little sketchy but in saying that we had no problems. Short walk to the ferry building and lots of public transport close by. The two lady's at reception were lovely!! Breakfast is donuts... That's like desert for me! But there were yummy. Rooms are ok size and have a sink, cupboard for hanging clothes... More

I wanted an old world charm feeling in San Francisco! I go it! Right here in the heart of the city! This place was very affordable to me. As soon as you walk in the doors, a throwback to old world time, so it seemed. The staff, especially med man was always there to take my money! The room had... More

It is difficult to rate such a hotel as it is unrealistic to expect luxuries in such a low cost hotel (by San Fran standards). Pros: Nice staff, convenient location, close proximity to public transport, free wi-fi, comfortable bed Cons: Lots of bums/beggars- you will get hit up for $, atmosphere/decor was lacking, place was not particularly dirty but was... The hotel is in a perfect location, on San Franciscos downtown Market street, with the Golden Gate Bridge, twin peaks and parks to the left and fishermans wharf to the right. It's not too loud at night and they have coffee and tea 24/7. And donuts for breakfast. Just don't check in at night, we were scared as hell by... More

I stayed here for nearly 2 weeks in late March- early April 2015. I ignored the bad reviews and decided to try my luck. It was very cheap, had an old elevator that worked well, it was clean, the staff were attentive and nice. Good value for the price. Not fancy but comfortable and central to everything.

The three of us stayed for six nights in a large family suite with attached bath/toilet. Simple yet cozy with good housekeeping. Friendly/helpful staff at the reception. Free donuts instead of breakfast and tea/coffee in the lobby around the clock. No in-house restaurant but plenty nearby. Within walking distance of major points of attraction Union Square, Chinatown, Embarcadero). Given the... More

Very good hotel for the price. Clean linen and clean towels. Internet is not so good in certain rooms, however excellent in lobby. The neighborhood is very bad, won't recommend walking alone during evenings. I always however felt safe in the hotel and the reception is very helpful. Will go there again.

I stayed at the Aida Plaza hotel and couldn't be more pleased. The hotel is 103 yrs old and reminds me of a kind of hotel seen in old movie. I loved the entrance, the decor, the brick exterior, the playing of music all day,Our room was small but we had a bathroom in our room, other rooms have to... More

The Aida is an older hotel that offers good value for the money in pricey San Francisco, especially with the discounts offered on the various internet booking sites. This was my second stay and I plan to return in June. I would recommend it for solos and adults but not for families with young kids. If you're OK with the... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
