We booked this hotel from Internet because of its fair price. The room was quite small and sober with one small bed a sink and a shower. Some rooms have central shower in the corridor. Breakfast consist of coffee and doughnuts. Unfortunately this part of Market Street is frequented by homeless people and the like.

We stayed at this hotel for one night only and chose it for its fairly central location and relatively low price (compared to other hotels in the area). However, my husband and I were quite shocked at the condition of the hotel - it felt like staying in a time warp hotel from the 1970s...not in a good way. The... More

This place is definitely not worth the price. It's practically a hostel pretending to be a hotel. Shared bathrooms that hardly look clean, small showers that also don't look clean, everything is extremely outdated, and the service is crap. The front desk is made up of 3 ladies who go to one another when they don't know what to do,... More

Without Hotwire, you pay >$125; with it, it's $51 for 2 people! Two issues: [1] they charge $30 for someone to come up and visit you—I've never heard of that before! [2] because of the new traffic regulations re Market St, it's damn near impossible to get there by car (even Uber couldn't find it)—oh, and parking is even more... More

I struggle to think of anything in this hotel that probably wasn't at least 25 yrs old. The vending machines in the lounge (both out of order during our entire 12 nights stay), the carpets, the elevator, the old TV in our room (with about 8 barely visible channels, half in Spanish), the hard plastic shower curtains on rusty hooks,... Guys, please pay a little extra and stay in a better place. If you are looking at the photos on the TA site, TRUST ME it looks much worse in reality. Everything is super old and dirty and all the reviews about the homeless people hanging around the neighborhood are absolutely true.

I am a solo traveler who comes to the Bay Area a couple of times a year to see friends, eat amazing burritos, and get a little work done. I spend most of my days and evenings out and about enjoying San Francisco, Oakland, Alameda, and Berkeley, and really use my hotel as a place to store my stuff, get... More

I read the reviews and I went anyway. And, with reading the reviews, there were no surprises here. Under $200/night in San Francisco during Dream Force? With not many lodging options (I was a late registrant), I chose this place. The Good: bed was reasonably comfortable; my room was away from street/surprisingly quiet; good location; helpful staff (directions, shuttle to... More

Normally I use trip advisor and research the hotel I plan on booking for some reason this time I did not and it back fired. Ok so where do I start, we arrived to the door of this hotel at about 9pm by taxi and saw some homeless people congregating near the entrance. We brushed this off as it was... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
