Our 6th grade field trip culminated with a day and night in San Francisco. Staying at this hostel is what made that possible, it was affordable, ideally located, and the facility was amazing. Our beds were very comfortable, the kids loved the movie theater, and breakfast was fun - so cool that you can see the Golden Gate Bridge. Not... More

The setting is glorious, with trees and views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island. Watch out for the skunks - there were babies when I was there. The hostel is clean, quiet when posted. The cafe is inexpensive. All the staff were exemplary - helpful, friendly. I was in SF to see performances at Cowell Theater, on one... More

Thank you so much for your charming review of our lovely home by the Bay! I am so pleased to hear that you had such a wonderful experience while visiting us. How exciting you saw the baby skunks – they live in the nearby bushes and trees but normally stay away from humans! Thanks again for your review and hopefully... More

A friend and I stayed at the HI Fishermans Wharf (Fort Mason) for three nights. We arrived late (11pm-ish) and were still greeted with a smile by the front desk staff. We had a twin room on the lower level of the building. Interestingly the beds had been made back to front - normally when in bed you would be... More

This hostel is in an old military building on the decommissioned Fort Mason, with amazing views of the Golden Gate Bridge and across the bay. Once I knew that this hostel was so close to the Golden Gate Bridge I just had to stay there. The hostel is right by the bay in a beautiful little park, the beaut of... More

I stayed at this hostel for 4 nights. The place is located on the beautiful hill of Fort Mason. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The storage space in the room was big enough for my suitcase and carry on (bring your own lock). The breakfast was good and there was a safeways close by. Only problem was that... More

I stayed 3 nights in this hi hostel. The worst night was when i had to stay in a bed in the basement under whisling water pipes. It was very scary. It seemed that this room was a 4 bed dorm in whichnthey squeezee in another one. During my stay Every single night i had to move and that meant... More

Thank you for your review! I apologize that you found the room in the basement to be scary. I assure you that the basement rooms are perfectly safe and the pipes are not dangerous. The whistling actually comes from the central heating system. Some people actually prefer the rooms in the basement as there are no bunk beds in those... More

It wasn't as cheap as a "just somewhere to sleep hostel, but was also not as expensive as a standard cheap hotel. This place was clean, comfortable and served pretty decent coffee and breakfast snacks. Staff were friendly when you needed help but also respected the guests so ensured there wasn't too much noise at nights. The location was spectacular,... More

Stayed here with my boyfriend during our reading break from university. Super friendly staff, very comfortable location, nice comfy beds, just a nice atmosphere all together. We actually preferred it over a higher rated, more commercial hostel close to Union Square. It wasn't loud, definitely not party central. We were able to study without distractions in the lounge each night,... More

I went with 4 middle school kids for two nights earlier this month. It was much better than I expected: quiet, courteous guests, helpful staff, lots of entertainment options, great wifi, nice little cafe, solid kitchens, and easy access to the Bay and the Wharf. I recommend it for the old (like me), families, young travelers, school groups.

Staying in Marina District

Neighborhood Profile
Marina District
Beautiful homes, beautiful people, and a beautiful backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge welcome visitors to the Marina. Originally the location for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 (whose remnants can be seen at the Palace of Fine Arts), much of the land was filled and flattened to accommodate a world’s fair. That ample space has given way to a jogger’s paradise at the northern edge of the city. With the picturesque bay setting as its backdrop, it’s no surprise that the area has hosted numerous movie productions. Daytime activities focus on café culture and boutique shopping, while the evenings turn this neighborhood into a party-going hotspot.
