I needed to stay in walking distance to Union Square this hostel turned out to be perfect. Walking distance to many attractions, and to the BART station (10 minutes) so transporting to and from the airport was easy. It's on the cusp of Chinatown/Financial district so there is lots to see. I walked to the Ferry terminal (15-20 minutes) and... More

I was looking for a place to crash in San Francisco for 3 nights and it was amazing. Met some nice ppl. The toilets were clean. The bed was very comfortable. Highly recommend. Located right in the heart of downtown San Francisco. The price was unbelievable. No wonder so many people are happy. Stay the same Pacific Tradewinds and we'll... More

First time in North America, first time travelling alone, first time staying in a hostel. Needless to say I was a little (a little more than a little, perhaps) nervous. But somehow, I managed to score myself potentially the best and most appropriate hostel for this trip of firsts. After being cooped up in 18 hours of tortuous air flight,... More

Staff and place are great. No need to worry about a thing, the friendliest but still very professional staff ever. And you can explore SF from there so easily. I met so many people as well. The living room never had a better name!

After travelling alone across the U.S. for the past 4 months and staying in some pretty great and some not so great hostels, I wouldn't hesitate to call Pacific Tradewinds the best. I arrived on a Monday and I instantly felt at home thanks to Courtney and the other guests. Hostels are usually made by the people you meet but... More

If your after a quiet, spacious and having minimal interaction with others, then your probably not going to enjoy staying here. But if your realistic about what a small hostel in the heart of the city will offer and prepared to socialise, then you will probably love it. It's been years since I last stayed in a hostel and after... More

I would recommend Pacific Tradewinds to anyone traveling in San Francisco. I had an amazing time there, I was staying in the city for a week by myself and I met some amazing people during my stay. Everyone is very friendly and good craic. They know the city inside out and will advise you regarding the very best nightlife and... More

Stayed at Pacific Tradewinds a couple nights and I am so glad I did. Facilities are clean, modern, and all well maintained. Free internet, free storage locker under the bed, leftovers from the fridge (including beer!), and the best staff you could ask for. Great vibes and an incredibly social atmosphere makes this place worth every cent. You get hooked... More

Very much enjoyed my stay. Good vibes, clean facilities, open + friendly atmosphere. Staff were brill and v competent. Highly recommended, providing you don't mind not having any privacy due to the very open nature of the dorms as the main dormitory is one huge room split up into different areas none of which have doors, and they all share... Stayed here for 3 nights while travelling with my friend and was very disappointed with this hostel! There are a lot of stairs to reach the hostel however had read about this beforehand so was prepared for this, the staff member on when we arrived did help us with our cases which was nice. The hostel itself is very poor.... More

Hi Elizabeth, Thanks for taking the time to let us know about your experience. We’re sorry that it did not live up to your expectations. It seems there was an unfortunate disconnect in your desire for a female-only dorm. You mentioned that you were given the option to select this at booking. However, our booking form doesn’t have this option,... More
