I stayed here recently as a solo 20 year old female (first time travelling on my own) so was a little nervous about what to expect, however this place is GREAT. Super helpful staff (good storage for baggage even if you haven't checked in yet/day of check out), free coffee/tea/toast, felt safe in the dorm, space for everybody to lock... More

I stayed at Pacific Tradewinds on the basis of all the positive reviews on tripadvisor and was not disappointed! Although small, this hostel fosters a great atmosphere, especially if you are travelling solo. The staff and the people who stay here make this place. After a couple of days you'll get used to climbing the stairs to the third or... More

This hostel is in an absolute perfect location. Very easy to get to/from the airport and is right across the road from Chinatown. It is a short walk to the Italian district and Union Square/downtown area. About a 15-20 minute walk to Fisherman's Wharf area. You have to walk up a lot of stairs to reach the reception area but... I was so thankful to have a place to store my bags during my downtown visit. The hostel staff members were extremely accommodating. I highly recommend using their services when you need someone to hold your "stuff".

The open and friendly staff and guests in this hostel made my stay. Bed was comfy and free towel, toast and coffee were nice touches. If you are sociable and want to connect with other travellers (from overseas and from the U.S.) then this is the place for you.

Love this place! One of my favorite big city hostels because it retains that small community backpacker feel. The hostel is located in the heart of downtown near the awesome North Beach neighborhood. Courtney and staff are really friendly and helpful. Only downside is the hostel does not provide a free breakfast like most other hostels.

I've been to a lot of Hostels and this was one of the best. It is located pretty much in Chinatown and the financial district. Don't mind the sketchy blue gated door and small sign---hit the intercom and they will buzz you up (you get a key to do this-safety yay!). The reception area is on the fourth floor so... More

Finding somewhere to stay on a budget in San Francisco is difficult: for those wanting a relatively cheap stay in a central location, this is a good option. The staff gave us a friendly welcome upon arrival, offering to help us with bags (on that note: there are several flights of stairs and no lift, avoid bringing a huge, heavy... More

Staying in Financial District

Neighborhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
