This is certainly the best hostel in San Francisco. The staff are friendly and helpful and the building itself is clean while maintaining the rustic appeal of an aging city. The location is prime, right in the heart of downtown SF, within walking distance of Chinatown and an easy bus ride to the water front, the Golden Gate bridge, Haight,... More

We're glad you enjoyed your stay! We do take pride in our daily staff-run activities as one of the things that sets us apart and fulfills our mission of cultural exchange. We want to show our guests the San Francisco that we (the staff) know, which is sometimes different than the usual tourism spots. Safe travels! More

Very impressed by this hostel as I was a bit nervous as it was my first time staying in one. My brother and I were traveling together so we opted for the private room which was perfect and worth paying the little extra, and you get your own bathroom too! The beds were comfortable and clean. The location is excellent,... More

My first hostel stay in a very very long time and while I was apprehensive about the idea I must admit I was very pleasantly surprised. The guests varied from youth, to international travelers, families and middle aged people alike. Not what I recall when backpacking thru Europe! I stayed in a female dorm for 4 with a private bath.... More

Stayed here for around 4 nights with two of my friends, in a private room. Our room consisted of a bunk bed with a double bed on the bottom and a single bed on top. The beds themselves were really comfortable and had no trouble, but the size of the room was extremely small especially for the three of us... More

Stayed here a week, and had a great stay! The whole places is very clean including bathrooms. The complementary breakfast is also nice, bagels with cream and jam plus some fruit. The group activities were fantastic! The staff who organised tours were very knowledgable. I would highly recommend the bike tour and the mission tour. Loved this hostel!

At first glance, most people would think that this hostel was going to be a dump due to the fact that it's located right outside of the Tenderloin district, but to my surprise as well as my traveling companion, this was an excellent hostel! The location was perfect as it it was close to public transportation (BART stop, subway, trolleys,... More

This is the second time I've stayed here since my first visit to San Francisco. It has maintained its good standard of cleanliness and comfort. I stayed in a private room. The room is well equipped with a sink, fan, USB ports for charging devices and even a hair dryer. You'll hear noise in the corridor but apart from that,... More

I have stayed in a few hostels around the world, this one was a little dated. First the staff was nice and friendly and were willing to answer all the questions I had and gave excellent directions. The beds were nice a lot of plugs to charge all of my electronics. TV room was nice and a seating area. The... More

Probably not the best HI I have stayed in, but a nice enough place. The hostel is fairly centrally located with bus, train and cable car stops nearby. Plenty of shops and restaurants to chose from, all within a few minutes walk. The check in staff seemed lovely and helpful but the maintenance and housekeeping staff didn't seem to understand... I stayed at a number of H.I's during my time in the US and this one was lovely. The location was great and their facilities were absolutely fantastic and wonderfully unique. It's a great place to explore San Francisco from and it's close to public transport. My only grievance with this hostel is that when I booked my stay I... More

Thanks for your feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed our facilities and you found the downtown location convenient. The issue with the co-ed space really concerns me: our policy is to never move guests booked in a gender-specific dorm to the co-ed dorm (unless the guest specifically requests to do so), for obvious reasons. If this was a mistake on the... More
