My friends and I stayed with HI for 8 days while we were in San Fran. Overall I found it a very clean and friendly place to stay, the hostel also has great security. HI provides a choice of bagels, porridge and fruit for breakfast each morning and has a great kitchen for guests to use to prepare their own... More

It's location is perfect for using public transportation....walking distance to Muni & Bart station. There's complimentary bagels, milk, coffee, & fruit for breakfast. I stayed in a private room with my daugher. Room 311 is adjacent to the stairs which you can hear footsteps..luckily it does quiet down in the evening. Make sure you don't stay in a room facing... A friendly bunch of people are always on hand to help, the location is perfect in the shopping area but also easy access to north beach, mission area etc , the single room with ensuite i had was great and the blue tooth speaker was a great touch. However, my room which was opposite the multi story car park was... More

I stayed here with 5 friends in January and we had a great time. We had arrived from Mexico so the cleanliness was warmly welcomed! The beds were extremely comfortable and warm and they have 5 powerpoint and a light above each bed which is really handy when you need to charge devises and use hair dryers etc! The room... More

This is certainly the best hostel in San Francisco. The staff are friendly and helpful and the building itself is clean while maintaining the rustic appeal of an aging city. The location is prime, right in the heart of downtown SF, within walking distance of Chinatown and an easy bus ride to the water front, the Golden Gate bridge, Haight,... More

We're glad you enjoyed your stay! We do take pride in our daily staff-run activities as one of the things that sets us apart and fulfills our mission of cultural exchange. We want to show our guests the San Francisco that we (the staff) know, which is sometimes different than the usual tourism spots. Safe travels! More

Very impressed by this hostel as I was a bit nervous as it was my first time staying in one. My brother and I were traveling together so we opted for the private room which was perfect and worth paying the little extra, and you get your own bathroom too! The beds were comfortable and clean. The location is excellent,... More

My first hostel stay in a very very long time and while I was apprehensive about the idea I must admit I was very pleasantly surprised. The guests varied from youth, to international travelers, families and middle aged people alike. Not what I recall when backpacking thru Europe! I stayed in a female dorm for 4 with a private bath.... More

Stayed here for around 4 nights with two of my friends, in a private room. Our room consisted of a bunk bed with a double bed on the bottom and a single bed on top. The beds themselves were really comfortable and had no trouble, but the size of the room was extremely small especially for the three of us... More

Stayed here a week, and had a great stay! The whole places is very clean including bathrooms. The complementary breakfast is also nice, bagels with cream and jam plus some fruit. The group activities were fantastic! The staff who organised tours were very knowledgable. I would highly recommend the bike tour and the mission tour. Loved this hostel!

At first glance, most people would think that this hostel was going to be a dump due to the fact that it's located right outside of the Tenderloin district, but to my surprise as well as my traveling companion, this was an excellent hostel! The location was perfect as it it was close to public transportation (BART stop, subway, trolleys,... More
