The hotel blends very nicely with the charm of SF. Its located at a pretty convenient location, with easy access to public transport, restaurants and shopping places. The lift, the corridors and the rooms are pretty old fashioned but it adds to the quaint charm of the place. The good news is that they even serve some breakfast in the... More

The location is good, just one street from Union Square. Rooms are clean and big. Staff is friendly and helpful The "breakfast" is ridiculous (some sweet pastries and "coffee", tea water), but that seems to be normal.

OK this will never be a four star hotel in the Michelin / Fodor guide sense of rating things BUT for travellers on a budget looking for a clean and quite place in a excellent safe location then this is extremely hard to beat ! That's why it has four stars from me. So much of budget hotels downtown SF... More

The Grant Hotel was ideally located for where we wanted to go and what we wanted to see in San Francisco. The room was sufficient enough, the bed comfortable enough to enjoy this place. The continental breakfast was unfortunately not the best. Very basic muffins ... and that was about it ... instant coffee ... not the best for a... More

Great location, walk distance to BART, cable car and Union Square. You have cheap places near, but are not reliable. It's not a big room, but is clean and confortable. Don't worry about the breakfast, wake up late and do a brunch in some place arround.

I booked 5 nights at The Grant Hotel since every other hotel was a fortune. I knew it was a budget hotel from the start and didn't have high expectations, but even those weren't met. The staff is very unpleasant, breakfast is minimal, and the beds were the most uncomfortable ever. Yes, the room was clean, but it had a... More

The hotel is pretty basic where there's no real luxuries, but it's location just wins it for me. It's about 2 minutes walk from Union Sq which is quite central, and it's very close to the Cable Car stands (although be warned these got very busy so often didn't stop unless you get on from the start). However, this was... More

This is probably the cleanest hotel I've ever been in. The outside isn't the best but your room will be spotless. The area is not bad at all. we walked around at night and never felt threatened. Their are a lot of places to eat around there (about 5 blocks from Chinatown) and in the surrounding area. The first day... More

After a long time trying to find an affordable hotel in San Francisco prior to our tour of the western US, we settled on the Grant. Turned out to be a good choice. Took a side room, no view, but very quiet (few rooms face the street). Smallish but well furnished. Good bathroom, plenty of hot water. Safe provided in... More

We were in San Francisco for two days and this hotel was perfect for us. The location here is what sold me on it when booking, and it didn't let down. It's right where you need it to be. The staff were very friendly and helpful, providing free ice and water in the lobby, pastries in the morning. The room... More
