The Layne Hotel was a decent place to stay over night. The room was decent, the staff was very kind and accommodating, and you are in walking distance to everything!! I felt safe and secure here. The city never sleeps so bring ear plugs!

Found these guys at the last minute. The staff run by strict protocol which I can appreciate but happens at the cost of good service. They don't let you in each ten unless you know your room number. The room was small and is not good at protecting from the sound at street level. Not in a great area. I... More

Was pretty difficult to find an hotel, sf seems to be very busy. We just find this, never seen something worst, i have to say i'm used to >3stars hotel but it would have been really disappointing anyway. Dirty room, very old, bad smell, employee coming out from a nightmare, stay away.

Worst hotel experience I have ever had. This hotel is operated by crooks and thieves. It's budget, but it's overpriced for what they offer and how they treat guests. No one should be treated how my travel partners and myself were treated. I will list a few notes from our short stay but the bottom line is that this business... More

Not very impressed with this hotel. Although it was very cheap ($90) it was not a very pleasant stay. Elevators took us to top floor every time before we could get to our level. Bed was very squeeky and non of the bathrooms or showers on our floor worked. Was told it included a continental breakfast in the morning, but... More

Read this review based on the fact that you book a low budget hotel and rather spend your money in San Francisco on food, exploring the city, etc. We stayed here for multiple nights during our stay in San Francisco and were slightly nervous based on some of the very negative reviews we read online. We were very positively surprised... More

This hotel is a close walk to Union square but is in a sketchy area. I saw and heard homeless people outside the hotel. I used the same level of awareness I use in any large city and was fine. The hotel is basic and older but fine. They no longer serve breakfast.

To be clear, I am giving this hotel a 4 based on the category of hotel, not hotels over all. After reading many of the reviews I was very nervous about staying here. So, we were pleasantly surprised with our experience. The location is great (just don't go South or West, that area is actually terrifying) and just 3 blocks... More

My friend & I from the UK stayed at the Layne hotel as the first point of our American road trip. There are a few pluses and a few negatives but my main point is this: The hotel us located on literally the border street of the 'Tenderloin'. If you haven't heard of it, Google it. But don't let it... More

TL;DR: Not Dangerous, Staff is not the bad, bathrooms are clean and rooms are clean and good enough for resting. I spent a week in San Francisco for WWDC2014. I booked my airplane ticket and hotel in expedia.com. I didn't realize where this hotel was located. I thought it was well positioned near the downtown and Yerba Buena Gardens. A... More
