Front desk told me to go [--] myself. Plain and simple. Never ever stay at this hotel.
My friend took me back packing all over San Francsico, CA this past weekend and we stayed at the Layne Hotel, it was wonderful!
....basically you just need to know what you're getting into when you book here. Also, the price you pay is going to majorly influence your opinion of the place, since the prices for the same room seem to vary hugely.
We paid $50/night for a double room with a shared bathroom, the first weekend of March. Here's the easy breakdown:...

No parking, small and creepy room, broken elevator, not so friendly staff, awful shared restroom. The room smell bad, sink could not really drain, and the mirror is useless. The shower on the 3rd floor shared bath room produced less water, more like drizzling.
It's located in a ghetto neighborhood so u need to walk through a hundred of homeless...

For San Francisco prices, it's cheap, so don't expect anything.
Stayed there 3 nights and even if "Raj" (our host) had a hard indian accent and didn't smile a lot and was prompting us for the money, he wasn't rude, he was helpful and funny in a way. The hotel is very old and so it "looks" old, but despite...

This hotel is horrible. First of all, they charge you the price at the beggining, but you have also to pay $250 for deposit. It was not specified in the booking terms and conditions.
The staff is not friendly, they didn't allow us to print out a page, or give us another pastry.
The breakfast is awful, just one process...

Over priced...terrible customer service, definately doesn't deserve the hotel title. I've travelled all over the world and this has to be worst hotel I have EVER stayed in. Please book elsewhere as you will be disappointed
I had an awful experience with someone at the desk front. At the check out, he refused to give me a receipt for the luggage storage and started to yield.
Moreover, the price is quite high for the quality of the room. The breakfast is also very disappointing.
Positive points: the 50's atmosphere of the hotel and the ladies at...

This was not my first choice, but I booked this place last minute through another travel website, and it was within budget (under $130/night) and location (Civic Center). I read other reviews and it was a mix between good and bad, so I was prepared for the worst. My list of Pros and Cons:
Pros:
+ Location - walking distance...

if you are looking for the Hyatt, Best Western or even Motel 6 in this hotel...keep looking. From the "traditonal" male mentallity front desk man...who checked in a male customer before me "a female" even when the man walked in after me to don't bring anything bigger than a backpack or you won't be able to fit in the elevator,...
