Stayed at The Pickwick Hotel with my husband for 3 nights. Excellent location. Within walking distance to Powell Street BART station and close to Union Square. Friendly staff and quick, smooth checking in/out processes. Did not eat in the hotel although you can have breakfast/dinner for an extra charge. Room was adequate size for the two of us. Bed was... Checkin/Checkout was smooth, staff was helpful. Comfortable bed and room. Fan / cooling unit was helpful. One night, the fire alarm went off at 1am and we were outside for ~20 minutes. Excellent location. Windows were a bit difficult to open. Paint was peeling on the bathroom door. Wifi was ok, but had problems with streaming video. Noise wasn't a... More

Great central location, 10 minutes walk from Union Square and 5 minutes walk from the tram terminus at Powell. Hotel is very comfortable, in particular the beds, and in a great location for exploring central SF and beyond. Light sleepers may experience traffic noise. If so, so ask for a room at the back of the hotel. Would highly recommend... More

Loud environs and thin walls - you will hear the busy street and your neighbors. Fitness room. Free breakfast at cafe next door. No room service. Refrigerator in room. Free wi-fi. Small but clean and comfortable rooms.

I stayed at The Pickwick in January for 6 nights. The hotel staff we're wonderful, especially Jacqui on reception, couldn't help enough. The room was spacious although could hear next doors TV through the wall, but luckily I was moved due to some kitchen roof maintenance and was upgraded. The upgraded room wasn't that different apart from leather seating and... More

Holes in the furniture vas fixed whit tape. No water on the 8th floor if other guest are using at the same time. Air con... More

Pros: -- Location is excellent - close to transit, Westlake, cable cars. -- Fitness room was unusually spacious; business center PCs and printer both worked well. -- Our room (which faced the back of the hotel) was very quiet. Cons: -- Our room was small (to be expected in a older hotel) but it was also extremely tired (scuffed walls,... More

Great location, all the public transport stops nearby. Staff really helpful. As a solo traveller a lot almost went wrong, tour company had a mix up, travel agent changed my flight check in code to fly to LA. Imelda at the front desk patiently helped sorted it all out. Restaurant is expensive but good at healthy options.

The hotel is an old property but well worth the price. If you're into old historical type buildings, this is perfect for you. My family and I were very comfortable for five days. The hotel manager and staff were very friendly and helpful. You can't ask for a better location as you can walk next door to the mall, movies,... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
