I stayed here for 5 nights while attending a conference nearby. Pros: convenient location, close to public transportation/restaurants/ shopping, helpful and friendly staff, unique and historic property. Cons: on a busy street, lots of noise (traffic, fire trucks, loud pedestrians) at night, I could hear conversations from the room next door, slow Wi-Fi. The price was much more reasonable than... We stayed there for 5 nights Our stay was nothing short of fantastic. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. They helped us with directions and gave us tips on where to eat, etc. The location was convenient....a few minute walk to union square and other nearby restaurants, cinemas, etc. It's also a few steps away from the cable car.... This hotel is shabby in places (although clean). Poor shower water pressure. The desk staff is helpful if asked but no "friendly greeting" from desk staff or concierge as one walks through the lobby. Several little annoyances. Fridge in the room was incredibly noisy and I had to unplug it. Vending machine had a slot for paper money, but it... More

I wish I could rate it 5/5 because this hotel is great in every way that it can control. I thought the staff was really friendly and professional, the price was fair, and the room was well decorated and had quality furnishings. The one caveat of this hotel is its location, it's very central to San Francisco, and that makes... More

This hotel was built in 1926. I was terrified I would have allergic/asthmatic issues due to the age, however I was remarkably surprised! The entrance is absolutely beautiful and staffed with two members at the desk and a bellman, day and night, who are extremely friendly. The public spaces were very modernly updated with a lot of crown molding and... More

The Pickwick Hotel near Market Street in San Francisco is a decent hotel for a stay of a few days, but we found that it has some maintenance issues. Its rooms are quite small, but then all old San Francisco hotels that are decently priced have smallish rooms. And as with almost every other old San Francisco hotel other than... More

I was attending a convention at the Moscone Convention Center so the Pickwick Hotel was a perfect choice for easy of walking to the site. The hotel seems old but they do try their best to keep it well maintained. My room was small but delightful. The bed was soft and comfortable and the bathroom, "tiny as it may have... More

Our stay at this Hotel was to get a flavour of San Francisco. Situated within 5 mins walk from Union Square and Bloomingdales. The staff were pleasant, our room was spacious. The hotel is a little tired but very clean. We had a corner room.Though situated within the hustle and bustle of SF there was no noise from traffic. The walls... More

I stayed here on business. I've seen the place several times before since it was on my route to work when I worked for the dot.coms back in the 90's. I got a corner room and it was nicely remodeled. Very comfortable and nice and clean. I like that the hotel itself is tucked away just beyond the Powell St.... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
