We came into town for a quick 3-day vacation. The hotel itself is good. Some pros: Rooms clean and decent size, proximity to Union Square, friendly staff, and double-bed options. Some cons: Parking (limited valet parking and $38/day parking rate), only 1 elevator (which is tiny), and the eclectic neighborhood. It is a good mid-tier boutique hotel that has parking... More

I have mixed feelings about this hotel. The pictures you'll see on their website are super shiny, clean and quirky. And whilst the photos are clearly of the hotel itself, I can't help feeling that they are slightly misrepresentative of the reality. The good...... 1) Room size was reasonable compared to many I've seen in large US cities. 2) Coffee... More

Dear TootiePie: Thanks for taking the time to review the Hotel Mark Twain. We are classic iconic hotel built in 1928 and at times we are really held to keeping a bit of history intact within the hotel structure and making modernistic improvements have proven to be a challenge. The design team has done an outstanding job working through our... More

This is an old hotel (Billie Holiday stayed here in 1948), but it has been maintained well and the rooms are comfortable and spacious. The staff is really friendly and helpful, an important requirement for me. The hotel is close to Union Square, but it also borders the Tenderloin. Most guests will want to turn LEFT when they exit the... More

What I liked about Hotel Mark Twain is that it's not trying to be anything more than a decent price for a good quirky hotel room. What I loved about Hotel Mark Twain is that the staff are attentive, educated and kind. There were noises during the night from an adjacent building and the next morning the front desk staff... Loved my week long stay at the Mark Twain! I was attending a week log conference and the location near Union Square was perfect for little breaks to shop, eat, and enjoy the sights and sounds of the heart of the city. Got into town a little early and the staff was absolutely lovely accommodating me, giving me suggestions for... More

We stayed at the Hotel Mark Twain for 7 nights. It is a very nice boutique hotel right on the cusp of the Tenderloin district, which isn't the nicest district, but it's not hard to avoid the sketchy parts. The hotel itself is on a decent street without a great deal of drama. The staff were extremely pleasant and available... More

To provide some context, we stayed in a Deluxe Room on the 9th floor (top floor) for three nights. This is my first time staying at the Mark Twain, but I travel to San Francisco often for both business and pleasure. This trip was for a weekend getaway. GOOD THINGS: -Hotel staff were very friendly, and helpful. We arrived late... More

First things first- this might be the world's smallest elevator... but it was quick. The staff was friendly and helpful. Some might caution you as to "the tenderloin"... I would pay them no heed. It's a downtown area of a large city. Anyone familiar with that should be fine here. A quick walk to the ballpark and convention center, I... More

Awesome staff and location for what we wanted to do! One of the mangers was ridiculously helpful with finding good places to eat and things to do around town. Elevators a little tight but no biggie! Definitely would come back to this hotel....

I wasn't expecting much because I was visiting one of the top tourist spots in the US, but the staff here were very friendly and patient. I requested a room change at 4 am on my first night because I couldn't sleep in a roadside room due to the noise from the streets. They politely told me that they didn't... More
