The rooms were very clean and nicely laid out. While the decore was a bit dated, it is obvious they have tried to create a warm feel for their guests. The location was great - a 10 minute walk from the Wharf and within minutes of great food. A local walgreens and local markets cover any other incidentals you may... More

My review is based on comparing similar hotels (rather than comparing this versus say a four seasons). SF hotels are not cheap so this stood out as having great value for someone on a budget. It's located relatively equidistant from chinatown, japantown, and fisherman's wharf so the location gives you the opportunity to walk around and explore rather than be... More

I stayed here with my kids for 1 night to enjoy the sights of San Francisco. Big Mistake! This hotel was terrrible! Very old, never has been renovated. The carpets were disgusting in the rooms. There is even carpet in the bathroom! Breakfast is a joke with cereal bars and instant coffee. Far walk to sites (Fishermen's Wharf, China Town and... More

At Castle Inn we work hard to make sure you have a pleasant stay. We offer a basic, clean room in a great, central location. We are about a 15 minute walk to Ghirardelli Square and a 20 minute walk to the Fisherman's Wharf area. If you prefer to take public transportation, we have buses half a block away or... More

The best way to experience San Francisco is to walk and the Castle Inn is in the center of everything. Park your car (free parking), check in (ultra clean rooms), get a coffee at Peet's Coffee & Tea (a 1/2 block down on Polk) or a great breakfast at Peter D's (across the street) and replenish the stuff that TSA... Castle Inn is located at the intersection of Broadway and Van Ness. It's a 15 minute walk from Ghirardelli Square and about a 20-25 minute walk from Pier 39 and Fisherman's Wharf- in other words I'm saying that location wise it's perfect! I think the bus stop is right across the street but we didn't use it. You do have... More

Stayed at this hotel in 2004 for the parking and the low rate. 11 years later here we are again. We just stayed 1 might st the Fishermsn Wharf, $260 later and after 2 nights in Sonoma wine country, needed a 1 might stay at the airport on our way home to Tennessee. Prices at San Fran airport were religious!... More

A colleague and I stayed in the hotel in December 2014 as we were attending a conference at the Moscone Centre. It was ideal for us. The room was very clean and big in size, the bathroom too. There was coffee making facilities, fridge, tv and toiletries provided. The breakfast in the morning was great for us to get on... More

SF is an expensive city. The Castle Inn is located centrally to many neighborhoods and they are currently renovating rooms -- a plus (unless you are next to the renovation, but they didn't start too early! )

Hotel outdated and worn, but is situated in a good area. Plus for free parking och free , but poor, wifi. Breakfast served on the counter in the reception with no possibility to sit down. Basic things like fruit, coffee, granola bars and "make your own oatmeal"

Staying in Nob Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Nob Hill
Swanky and stylish, Nob Hill sits in the heart of the city and is home to amazing architecture and views. The hike to the top can be a challenging workout for those who forego a cable car ride, but they will be rewarded with some of the city’s most beautiful architecture adorning its peak. Originally populated with mansions after the Gold Rush, most if not all were devastated in the 1906 earthquake and fire that followed. Luckily all is not lost; storied hotels and Grace Cathedral surround Huntington Park. Having a drink or dinner while taking in the sunset and views at the "top of the Mark" is tough to beat.
