My friends and I were visiting SF for the first time, and I picked out this hotel for us to stay in overnight and was very pleased! The location is wonderful and close to the center of things-- it seemed like a very safe area and was within a 15-20 minute walking distance of Fisherman's Wharf, etc., which was very... More

The Castle Inn was recommended to me by friends. It's a good clean room--not fancy--in a decent, safe neighborhood. The location is good--not far from anything really. I was traveling for work, and my mother came along. We rented a car and we're glad we did. (Public transportation in San Francisco can be limiting, and it's not a hard city... More

The good is that it is as advertised. It isn't trying to be something that it isn't. Good clean room with the exception of the drapes which were quite dirty. Bed was on the hard side but okay, decent shower, free parking. I'd stay here again.

Where do I begin? I have had the pleasure of staying here quite a few times, 4 or 5 I believe. Every single one of those trips have been for different reasons, occasions, etc. Not once in any of those visits was there anything short of amazing service, perfectly maintained rooms, and prime location! Just a walk from anything you... More

I travel extensively for work so I have a good sense of what a decent hotel should have. Castle Inn had very few of these things. 1- Noisy on the street, No AC, so windows had to stay open. Noise was terrible. Cars and Harleys all night. 6:30 AM garbage pickup right outside the windows! Was told they are triple... More

I enjoy the big room and nice service from the front desk. He will write out the must go place and place to avoid in San Francisco. I will go back again and inexpensive too. Love the HBO TV and clean environment.

The rooms were very clean and nicely laid out. While the decore was a bit dated, it is obvious they have tried to create a warm feel for their guests. The location was great - a 10 minute walk from the Wharf and within minutes of great food. A local walgreens and local markets cover any other incidentals you may... More

My review is based on comparing similar hotels (rather than comparing this versus say a four seasons). SF hotels are not cheap so this stood out as having great value for someone on a budget. It's located relatively equidistant from chinatown, japantown, and fisherman's wharf so the location gives you the opportunity to walk around and explore rather than be... More

I stayed here with my kids for 1 night to enjoy the sights of San Francisco. Big Mistake! This hotel was terrrible! Very old, never has been renovated. The carpets were disgusting in the rooms. There is even carpet in the bathroom! Breakfast is a joke with cereal bars and instant coffee. Far walk to sites (Fishermen's Wharf, China Town and... More

At Castle Inn we work hard to make sure you have a pleasant stay. We offer a basic, clean room in a great, central location. We are about a 15 minute walk to Ghirardelli Square and a 20 minute walk to the Fisherman's Wharf area. If you prefer to take public transportation, we have buses half a block away or... More

Staying in Nob Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Nob Hill
Swanky and stylish, Nob Hill sits in the heart of the city and is home to amazing architecture and views. The hike to the top can be a challenging workout for those who forego a cable car ride, but they will be rewarded with some of the city’s most beautiful architecture adorning its peak. Originally populated with mansions after the Gold Rush, most if not all were devastated in the 1906 earthquake and fire that followed. Luckily all is not lost; storied hotels and Grace Cathedral surround Huntington Park. Having a drink or dinner while taking in the sunset and views at the "top of the Mark" is tough to beat.
