This is a great place for people looking for a budget option in San francisco that is in a somewhat "neighborhood" as opposed to downtown. North Beach is a wonderful option, be warned that you are far enough away from North Beach proper that you will be either taking a taxi or bus, or using up calories walking there. The... More

This is a modest, small, 3-4 story motel in an absolutely perfect location. There is no breakfast, no room service, no pool, no workout room. It is clean, comfortable, Bed linens/quilt/pillows nice. Large TV + table + couch in our room. Vending machine (soda/candy) on each floor. One of the few places I could find with 2 Queen beds. Not... More

we booked this hotel on a recommendation from a friend and it was everything and more. It is a great location close to all the attractions and walking distance to Fisherman's wharf and North Beach. Our room was clean, comfortable for a family of 4 and quiet. Our check in was great as we were about 45 mins early and... More

This hotel has clean accommodations with a free parking garage on premise. The hotel rooms were just average with thin bedding and in the bathroom, the paint was chipping in places on the walls. However, the free parking is a big draw in this city and very handy. It was about a block to the cable car turnaround and start... More

I've stayed at some of the sister properties run by the same management of the this hotel and I've always had a pleasant stay. I decided to stay in the Columbus Motor Inn as I was close to the downtown area and Moscone center. It was truly a delightful stay due to the accomodating nature of a really nice gentleman,... More

This was a great motel if you're visiting for a couple of days and want access to free parking in a fabulous location. The staff were friendly and conveniently open 24 hours. The car park was a little tight however it is free - so absolute bonus in San Fran as I found other prime location properties can charge up... More

My husband and I stayed here the first 3 nights of our honeymoon and we could not believe the deal we were getting for such a beautiful hotel. We only hope that it stays this affordable for our next trip, given that the comfort of the accommodations and location were superb. We had researched every hotel in San Francisco, and... More

The rooms are fairly large-new carpet-no refrigerator, nothing fancy-but parking included-well suited for small cars- best part is location! You might have to fight for quiet room -don't accept room by ICEMAKER! We stayed at sister property last year-Coventry-a bit nicer but location to places we like not as convenient...

We got to stay here again for 3 nights with our daughter and son in law on another California road trip. We had a good stay however this time there were a couple of issues. We had reserved a 2 room suite on the top floor, but there was apparently some kind of issue so they put us in connecting... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
