This was our third visit to Columbus Motor Inn. This time we reserved a suite because that was all that was available for the duration of our stay of almost a week. It was room 111 above the garage. No one on either side of us--housekeeper's closet on one side and then we took up the rest of the floor... More

Stayed for a weekend. Given the proximity to the wharf and North Beach, the prices were quite reasonable. The room was plain, but adequate. The bathroom had nice touches, such as the widened shower curtain. The rooms include a coffeemaker and the beds were nice without the usual slumping on the sides. If you are looking for a good solid... More

Location, Location, Location & Free Parking! Spent two nights here and was very impressed with hotel staff; especially Pearly who takes good care of cleaning room and changing bed linens. Request room on top floor towards the back if you are bothered by traffic noise. Pay the extra $5 for a refrigerator-request in advance. Recommend Capurro's for lunch, happy hour... More

This place is remarkably clean and comfortable with easy access to the many sites to see within walking distance and awesome restaurants! Included is free parking and the front desk was so helpful. It made our stay that much better! I would definitely stay here again!

If you're looking for work out rooms, room service, etc. then this is definitely not the hotel for you. However, if you're looking for a place that's clean and offers a comfortable stay, then you might want to consider the Columbus Motor Inn. The hotel is within walking distance of Fisherman's Wharf and Ghirardelli Square. Public transportation is very accessible.... More

We were looking for a reasonably priced hotel in the Fisherman's Wharf area and this one fit the bill. Nice desk staff, clean room (albeit in need of refurbishment) and close to FW and various forms of transportation around SF. They also have free parking if you have a car (we didn't). We asked for a room at the back... More

My boyfriend and I stayed here in August last year, the location is great as it is a nice walk down to fisherman's wharf and tourist attractions around that area. This hotel has free parking which seems to be hard to find in San Francisco! The rooms are basic but comfortable and in my opinion good value for money for... More

If you are looking for a fancy lobby, restaurant in the hotel, or swimming pool/exercise room, then this is not the hotel for you. If you are looking for a clean hotel, basically in the Fisherman's Wharf area, with free parking for a very reasonable rate, then look no further. Thanks to Trip Advisor, we requested an upper floor room... More

Very very clean! Beds are comfortable, linens changed each day. motel is convenient to everything (bus right outside) 2 blocks from the Wharf and located in North Beach. (Also, a Walgreen's is a block away!) Very safe neighborhood. Most of all, the staff; Chris, Oscar, et all, just terrific! As a native visiting home again, I was impressed with this... More

I stayed here for 2 nights and overall it was alright. The rooms are a little shabby (huge crack in sink and caulk was really old) but it is an old hotel. Teeny lobby next to an underground parking area but the day hotel clerk, Matt, was the best ever. He was very helpful about all our questions and was... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
