Great location and very nice service. The family room was awesome for our family of four. Kids had their own space and it was really cute. Only downside is the pool was really not very heated and the shallow end is completed shaded. The reason we chose this hotel was for the cute motel-type pool, but it just wasn't usable... More

I generally like Joie de Vivre hotels but the Hotel del Sol isn't worth the money. I agree with others that the staff is quite pleasant, I knew the property was a renovated motel so didn't expect a different layout. The room was decent sized and fairly well appointed. However it smelled strongly of mildew, The air conditioner worked poorly... More

We spent 6 days in this hotel earlier this month. I booked this hotel due to the pool and the excellent reviews given by previous guests. The hotel is in a good location close to restaurants and shops and also quite close to Fishermans Wharf. We booked the junior suite as we are a family of 5 and need the... More

As part of our honeymoon, we decided to book here for 2 nights. On arrival, it was not the cute little boutique hotel we had been led to believe, it looked like an old motel with a lick of paint, I was a little disappointed on first view. We had checked in online before arrival so went to pick the... More

If you are in San Francisco with your kids and looking for a central location, yet quite and easy-going - this is the place! This is a classical 60' motel that was renovated with bright colors and a hippie state of mind. Though the rooms are tiny and the beds are on the smaller side, all are renovated and comfortable.... First off, when I was checking in I noticed that each desk clerk puts up a little sign where they say where they're from, and their favorite things to see in the city. The woman who was helping me was from Portland, Oregon, and I had visited Portland a few days before. We chatted about what I did and then... More

We stayed here a few days ago for a couple of nights. The clerk at the desk was very helpful, but the room was very small. It definitely had a 50's motel feel to it. I liked the look and feel of it but we really needed more space for the four of us. It didn't help that our closet... More

Hotel del Sol has a nice vibe. It's a simple hotel/motel and it worked perfectly for us, a family of five (since they have family rooms). It has a small pool nice for the kids after sightseeing. Restaurants and buses nearby.

The colours and the decoration of the rooms make the hotel very cosy and friendly like (feels like home). Breakfast very basic. Pool is small but vejr useful, when bringing kids ( not many hotels with pools in this area) Close to bars etc, so a lot of noise during night.

My husband and I love this hotel.....it is not fancy but ALL the staff is so friendly and helpful, the location is close to our sons that live in the city and we always feel relaxed during our stay at the Hotel del Sol. We have stayed here as well as several other Joie de Vivre hotels and find that... More

Staying in Marina District

Neighborhood Profile
Marina District
Beautiful homes, beautiful people, and a beautiful backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge welcome visitors to the Marina. Originally the location for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 (whose remnants can be seen at the Palace of Fine Arts), much of the land was filled and flattened to accommodate a world’s fair. That ample space has given way to a jogger’s paradise at the northern edge of the city. With the picturesque bay setting as its backdrop, it’s no surprise that the area has hosted numerous movie productions. Daytime activities focus on café culture and boutique shopping, while the evenings turn this neighborhood into a party-going hotspot.
