Chancellor is right on Union Square, which is awesome. The trolley runs right by the hotel with a stop just a few yards away. The hotel itself is 100 years old, which has its pros and cons, naturally. Rooms are a bit small, but very nice. I loved the character of the hotel. Oh, and the hotel staff were A+++.... More

This was our first trip to San Francisco and the Chancellor Hotel. The rooms while not overly large were ample enough. We weren't in our rooms much anyway. The cookies upon arrival were a nice treat as was the coffee/tea/hot chocolate and ice water that were always available in the lobby. We asked for a room on the upper floor... More

We find this hotel a perfect spot for staying a few nights in the city. Lower floors can be noisy as close to a busy street and the famous cable cars. They now supply complimentary ear plugs to help with this problem. Since our last visit the rooms have had fridges and better power sockets, charging stations added. Getting better!... More

We loved this quaint hotel with such a great Union Square location. We enjoyed our stay very much. Loved the walk in closet to store stuff out of sight. No air but not needed with window open. We closed the big window at night as it is located right on Powell but left the fan on and the bathroom window... More

We stayed for three nights a few days ago. We loved our room. It was a corner room and had a little extra space to it. Room was clean and ready for check in at 2:00. Only complaint would be that customer service didn't seem as good as the last time we stayed there. It was during busy season, but... More

Thank you coming back to the Chancellor Hotel. I am sorry we let you down on the service aspect on this visit. Spent 3 nights here in June and on booking in we were given an upgrade to a suite which was very much appreciated. The room had a good size bedroom and then a further living area with a comfortable seating area. Two well equipped bathrooms. Not much of a view but in the middle of a city you can't really... More

Convenient location. No air conditioning needed 7/21/14-7/24/14. Open window allowed plenty of fresh, cool air. Walk-in closet in room # 600 allowed space for hanging clothes and keeping two suitcases on luggage racks. Very professional staff. Breakfast in hotel was excellent. I would stay here again.

Wife & I stayed four nights last week during its 100th Anniversary. Hotel hosted a free Champagne lobby reception celebrating its centennial. NIce touch! Superb location one block north of Union Square. Near cable cars, shopping, restaurants and Starbucks. Chancellor offers everything you want, including tours and discount tickets to some museums and sights, like the California Academy of Science.... More

Comfortable room, right next to union square. Trolley stop outside or short walk to street car and within a mile of ferry building. No air conditioning was not an issue at all. Would stay again. Big closets so you don't have to have luggage in your way. Clean and comfortable beds.

We stayed here for a 4 day weekend and were not disappointed. The location is great. It's close to the Bart station if you're coming in from SFO (which is good because you don't have to wheel your luggage so far), its very close to the cable car origination spot (although don't get on at market place, you'll wait in...
