It does not have air conditioning even thought the reviews say you do not need it WE NEEDED IT! It is an old hotel, it was clean, but the bath is very small. We do not require much but the room was too warm and bath too small. Good location though.

Really liked this lovely historic hotel - so much old world charm! Great location right in Union Square - cable cars running outside - nice room, clean, comfy bed. Good breakfasts all you could want. Small bar but fine - made good Manhattans! Staff very friendly happy to explain transport etc... Will stay here again one day!

Everyone has been fore-warned about the lack of air conditioning (and, in fact, the Chancellor itself advertises this upfront), so there should be no criticism lobbed at the hotel for this "non-feature". We stayed for four nights during a warmish spell. One night was a little stuffy, but the open window and ceiling fan cooled down the room otherwise. Fabulous... More

Just steps from Union Square this small hotel feels like a homey oasis. Staff was friendly and helpful, room was adequately-sized and well-furnished. On a busy weekend in August, their rates were slightly below some of the similar hotels in the area, making it a good value.

Loved my stay here! Great hotel with clean rooms and friendly staff! Free coffee and tea was great on a morning! Great location - the only bad point was the lack of air con-just had a fan on the ceiling and opening the windows meant that you had a lot of noise on a night especially if you were facing... More

I reserved a Queen bed room, quiet location. The room is very small and would have been tight for 2. The closet was huge [unnecessary] The bathroom was sufficient. PROS: Historical hotel setting. Within walking distance of every sight seeing destination yet cabs readily available. 24 hour coffee/cookies/apples. THE STAFF!! Each staff member made me feel welcomed and offered recommendations... Thank you. I am glad the PROS far outweigh the CONS. Especially when the CON of not having A/C is not even missed probably 350 out of 365 days per year. The comments about the staff, however, are what really says it all. A luxury hotel with a poor staff will not be a luxury experience, but a 3 star... More

This hotel is perfect! We stayed for a few days in early July on our way to Vancouver where we were getting married. We were greeted warmly by the hotel staff and one in particular member of staff (Tina) made a point on welcoming both me and my partner and congratulating us which I thought was a really nice touch.... This is a two star hotel with four star hotel service. The hotel is old. I admit that the rooms are decently furnished and painted, but I cannot get past the out dated hotel. There is no air conditioning, so I had to sleep with the windows open, meaning that I got to hear street noise all night. The bathroom... More

This was a very nice hotel, small with lots of character. The location was great, located in Union Square with cable car on the street in front of the hotel. Staff was friendly and helpful. The only issue I had was no air conditioning. Rooms had a ceiling fan. Nights were cool so if you could sleep with your windows... More

Great Hotel. But the parking is terrible. We chose to go the more expensive valet route and could never find a spot in front of the hotel to park our car. We also had room key that hardly worked it often took 6 or more tries to open the door. Staff was very friendly. Nice location.

Parking definitely is not our best feature. We have the small white zone in front of the hotel for passenger loading and unloading as well as valet pick up and drop off - it can get busy during peak times. Sorry about that! When one stays in a premier location like ours, we would always suggest not having a car.... More
