Stayed in the Mark Hopkins for a week in early June. Hotel is a beautiful, old building situated on the top of Nob Hill. Rooms were nice and a decent size. Did not use any of the facilities so can't comment there! In a good location for seeing all the sights of downtown SF. Only downside is the hill!!! I... More

It had been years since I had stayed at the Mark and I knew from some of the posts the Grande Dame might be a little long in the tooth. However-- we made our reservations in November, and the Fairmont offered a non refundable reservation, whereas the Mark offered reservations which could be cancelled without fee up until 48 hours... Our bags were taken from us as we approached the towering façade of the IC. There was a short wait for check-in as only one member of staff appeared to be on duty, but processing was quick and professional and I was welcomed as an Ambassador member, with my complimentary weekend night certificate being accepted. Along with the room keys... More

Stayed for my 39th birthday and was provided a cupcake treat. But to say that Anna the assistant room supervisor helped us when my wife was suffering a back problem. They went out of their way and made sure that my wife would be comfortable for the rest of our stay. She and her staff went above and beyond in... More

We just visited SF and stayed at the Intercontinental Mark Hopkins Hotel on Knob Hill. We choose this hotel because of our prior enjoyable association with the Intercontinental hotel chain. To our dismay this hotel fell well short of our expectations. We paid the upcharge for the Club Level experience, which we have enjoyed and found well worth the money... More

We recently stayed here because of the location. I actually grumbled to my husband that the hotel was showing its age upon our arrival. However, the service was excellent and everyone was helpful and friendly. One can still open the windows in rooms and get the cool San Fransico air in the evenings. I left an expensive purse in the... More

The outside of the building is gorgeous and the area is perfect but the rooms, lobby restaurant, and staff need to all be updated. Pros: Location atop nob hill, access to all the highlights of the city, free street parking if you have guests across the street (2 hours i think), top of the mark can be fun Cons: aging... More

Nob Hill views, very traditional, very comfortable. I had a bay view from my room (as well as "peek a boo" views into the Fairmont Hotel's rooms. Their bath windows are frosted which does nothing to ensure privacy at night...eeekkk. Got an accidental eyefull, but I digress.). You must at least have drinks at the Top of the Mark as... More

Standards is something this hotel has in the bag. It is a beautiful building in a nice area. The staff was prompt, polite, and helpful. The only bummer was parking is $54 a night per vehicle, but you can't win them all. We will definitely be coming back here.

We stayed at this lovely hotel at the start of a tour of the west coast and the desert this year, its a traditional grand hotel that has been updated tastefully, the top floor bar and restaurant has great views including Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge. The Lobby is very nice and the staff were friendly. The room was... More

Staying in Nob Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Nob Hill
Swanky and stylish, Nob Hill sits in the heart of the city and is home to amazing architecture and views. The hike to the top can be a challenging workout for those who forego a cable car ride, but they will be rewarded with some of the city’s most beautiful architecture adorning its peak. Originally populated with mansions after the Gold Rush, most if not all were devastated in the 1906 earthquake and fire that followed. Luckily all is not lost; storied hotels and Grace Cathedral surround Huntington Park. Having a drink or dinner while taking in the sunset and views at the "top of the Mark" is tough to beat.
