Arriving at this super luxurious hotel, you feel like you should arrive in a horse and buggy, as they did when the hotel first opened. Grand and opulent. Gold everywhere. This is five star plus luxury and service. One of the best hotels in San Francisco.

Hotel is right in the heart of downtown San Francisco, walking distance to a tons of restaurants and shops. The staff really goes above and beyond to meet any need you have. We had the pleasure of staying in their new renovated rooms and we loved it. The new design is really cozy and the renovated bathroom is to die... More

Had a wonderful stay in this classic hotel. Renovated room was fine. Great location. Loved the "timeless" bar and the magnificent lounge. All staff were excellent. Concierges were enthusiastic about their favorite local coffee places and restaurants. Concierge Debbie Lew even shared recipes. Would highly recommend this hotel. Preferred it over the W and St. Regis.

The Palace is a nice grand hotel with ornate open spaces. My room was just fine, with nice furnishings. I was there for a conference and the meeting rooms were very nice, with an efficient staff who set up the spaces very well between sessions. The prior night I stayed at a sister hotel, which was way overpriced for small... More

Okay, the staff is courteous and professional and the main floor lobby is historic and beautiful. The room, however, was possibly in the worst condition of any room that I have stayed in...ever. Obviously, this is an historic older hotel in downtown San Francisco. I expected it to still have the historic feel and renovated rooms but was disappointed at... More

We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of our cruise on Queen Elizabeth and we had a lovely time. We didn't actually eat in the hotel but we had coffee in the garden lounge and we visited the Ghirardelli's ice cream parlour on several occasions :-) Our room was lovely and we had a superb stay. Jenny on... More

Marvelous remodel of a once worn beauty. Rooms are well appointed. Reception and breakfast area would make any grand dame of past century feel right at home. Easy walk to Embarcadero and north beach without hills. Close to Moscone for meetings.

loved the hotel and its decor. Great for families. Spacious rooms. The location is good too for moving around in SF. I would definitely come back here some day again. The breakfast buffet is phenomenal. Not much of rooms with views are available, but that's just a minor thing. Love the city and loved this hotel.

The Palace Hotel is one of the most romantic hotels in San Francisco. This hotel is timeless and elegant when you first check-in. I have stayed here about 10 or 15 times and I always feel like I have escaped to 1930's San Francisco with the fortunate realization of having modern technology. Walking in the hallways alone lets you know... More

Grand hotels from eras past can go one of two ways. Some hotels barely survive, clinging onto faded glories like a threadbare carpet to floorboards and riding on the coattails a long-undeserved reputation that could truly be described as historic. Some hotels, on the other hand, thrive – restored in the right places, modernised in the right places, and their... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
