I stay at the Palace several times a year but was pleasantly surprised when I checked in. The lobby and entranced looked the same but as soon as I got off the elevator onto my floor I immediately noticed everything was new. The paint is a cool grey and the carpeting is modern and classy and all of the hallway... More

The charm of the classic San Fran hotels you see in movies and TV is found here. The place is nice and big and staff is very visible to prevent problems from homeless people that seem to find their way into hotels in big cities. The remolded rooms look nice but make some of the charm of a classic hotel... More

I thought this was a great hotel. The rooms are spacious and clean. I stayed here 1 night during Thanksgiving 2014 weekend. It wasn't that crowded, as check-in and check-out was very easy. If I need another hotel to stay in the Financial District I would stay here again and recommend this hotel for visitors.

With its gorgeous public spaces and location so convenient to the Financial District, The Palace is my go-to hotel in San Francisco. I probably stay there half a dozen times a year, in spite of the challenges that come with its desperate-to-be-renovated rooms and weird eccentricities. So it was with great anticipation last week that I opened the door to... More

The Palace Hotel is a place of beauty and luxury, in a historic setting and enviable location. Unfortunately, as of my visit (February 2015), a renovation was still underway, and much work remained. For the price that was charged (the highest price I have paid in the last year in any hotel, anywhere) this does not represent a good value... More

One recent Sunday, after Glide church my family and I decided to stop in here for a breakfast. There was NO ONE in the huge dinning room! They have a STRICT policy, if you don't have a reservation, they will not serve you. Some day, when they have to let staff go...they will re-THINK this policy. I guess we could... More

I stayed here recently for a conference and was very disappointed. To classify this as a luxury hotel is a massive stretch. The common areas are gorgeous, but the room I stayed in had not been updated in at least 25 years. The carpet was dirty and brown, the furniture/decor extremely dated and the bathroom filthy. The room also reeked... More

Great location (BART station right outside), old world glamour and beautiful, big rooms. The main dining room is gorgeous and a great place for afternoon tea. I absolutely love staying here whenever I'm in San Francisco.

We stayed two nights at the hotel. The service and hotel was pleasant. However one concierge, Blane, was sarcastic and patronizing when I asked which exit was the best to catch BART. It was very uncomfortable and embarrassing. People who serve as concierges should be helpful and respectful. He was completely out of line.

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
