Location: it's pretty central to all things to walk to. The property: beautifully maintained, old charm, nice concierge, but hotel Lubby could use updating, gorgeous chandeliers... and from I heard, it's still being updated. Our room seemed big because of its high ceiling. The bed was uber comfy. Good size bathroom, but the sink, not two-people-friendly! Our room faced the... More

Good location but the lobby court which is what this hotel is famous for was closed and we were never told that when made our reservation. Hence no place to socialize with friends except for a dark inside bar area which is not inviting and very plain. The rooms are spacious, bed comfortable and the only hotel I have ever... More

Late check in, took two hours to get my bags from the bell desk, had to call 10 times to the front desk with no answer, only to go down and find a manager to get my bags delivered! With the manager in the room I called back down to the bell desk to prove the debacle and the phone... More

I love this hotel! Great location, close to the Westfield shopping center, Union Square and not far from the Ferry building. It is such a beautiful historic hotel and the recent renovations bring it up to a well deserved 4 1/2 star status. Even though we booked through Hotwire, we were welcomed and treated warmly. Our room was of average... More

The hotel has been renovated recently and it still retains the old charm and majesty i remember from my past two stays. The only drawback from this trip is that the lobby garden court is closed for the next two weeks for renovation work so if you'll be staying sometime soon, do come back when the garden court is finished... We stayed in this hotel the first part of trip to the West Coast. Having come straight from the UK on a long flight, we caught the BART and it was a wonderful sight to see the Palace right by the entrance. That moment of stress finding your hotel after using a metro can be traumatic, but there it was,... More

Unbelievably friendly staff and definitely a great place to spend a holiday or even stay for business! I had an urgent surgery that needed to get done while I'm staying at the hotel and the manager (Julian) went out of his way to upgrade us to a suite! The service and professionalism is impeccable and can't thank Julian and the... More

Have been to events there, but actually stayed at The Palace for the first time recently. It has been undergoing very nice renovations and, while still in progress, they are nearly done. Room on a recently finished floor was quite comfortable and, while none too large, was in excellent condition as one would expect. The remote-controlled toilet was interesting to... More

Visited San Fran over the 4th of July weekend. This hotel had major renovations. The halls were much brighter. The room we had was newly furnished with a step back in time of a luxury liner. Location is great, near Union Square, the Mall, and just moments away from the pier. I can't wait to return to the city by... More

This is a gorgeous and well located hotel with updated rooms, but our stay lacked any WOW factor beyond the lobby. We are SPG members and were using points to stay for 5 nights. It is usual to get smaller/un-refurbished rooms when using points but when be arrived, (2 adults and 2 children) we were told that no rooms with... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
