Had a very short one night stay here after a 4 day biking trip to Sonoma. The common areas of this hotel are amazing. If you like the older-style, classical grand hotels like the Waldorf Astoria, etc., you will like this hotel. We had a small room that was in need of updating although it was comfortable. But it was... more

The Palace is one of the oldest hotels in San Francisco but has been updated. I thought the rooms were great--big with high ceilings. It is located in the financial district which means lots of restaurants do not keep late hours and some aren't open on the weekends and that the closest coin laundry is 7 or 8 blocks away.... more

The lobby is gorgeous, but the rooms are old and tired, with furniture that doesn't seem to have been updated for a century. And if your room is facing Market, be aware... it's going to be VERY LOUD!! When I was there, the city was doing construction at night, which they are apparently allowed to do until 11 PM, which... more

LOCATION: Good location. Close to a tram stop and metro stop. 5 minute walk to Union Square. Quieter location away from major attractions. ROOM: Small but adequate size. Kept up well for a historic hotel. STAFF: Nice and knowledgeable staff. HOTEL: Detailed and well kept interior. Elegant. CITY: San Francisco is cool. Tons to see and do. We only had... more

I love gorgeous old hotels with some history and character. The Palace Hotel fits perfectly into that category with its opulent ceiling in the Garden Court to the mahogany bar in the Pied Piper. And only minutes walk to Chinatown and the downtown shopping adds to the lure of staying at the Palace Hotel. A hidden bonus is the dry... more

Having just spent several nights in the hotel, I can tell you it is great place to stay with friends and family. If you are looking for a great location, and a comfortable place to stay, this is it. You are a few blocks from Union Square and the SF MOMA. A quick cab ride to Golden Gate Park and... more

This hotel is in the financial district, making it easy to walk to most of San Francisco's major tourist attractions. The hotel is an older hotel that has been beautifully maintained, with large, spacious rooms. Despite the hotel's beauty and excellent location, the prices are very reasonable for a central San Francisco hotel. more

Stayed at the Palace Hotel for a week. Was a little worried after reading some of the reviews posted but I had no problem at all with the quality of the room or service. Very comfortable bed and decor keeping the old-world elegant charm of the hotel. Great, central location. A short walk to Union Square area without being too... more

I got the pleasure of staying at The Palace Hotel for work. The building is neat from the outside and the inside lobby is gorgeous. The room I stayed in was also beautiful. The bed was comfy and the LCD TV was nice also. The lady working the concierge desk was nice and helpful - the guy, not so much.... more

I stayed at the Palace for 2 nights. Was very impressed when upon arrival at 11 AM, I was given a room. The lobby is breathtaking. Upon getting to my room, I noted that my “view” was of other windows. Understandable. When I started to look around the room, I noticed a thin layer of dust on just about everything... more
