The service is not good. We waited for a long time (large party) to get served. No offer of appetizers, just drinks. After a very, very long wait with no bread and bad setvice, I finally called for the Manager and advised that we wanted to eat. He sent one (of several) server over to us who brought menus. Yes,... The Palace fits into the model of one of the historic grand hotels. It's a large place with small rooms. However the quality of service and the quality of the staff is amazing. It's worth a visit just to see the Maxwell Parrish painting in the bar. Don't miss it, the grand court, which was once the carriage entrance, is... More

The room itself was nothing special...the view was of the office buildings overlooking market st. The staff was awesome and the lobby was by far the highlight. The room was small and lacking anything special. The TV channels were analog, digital and had one hbo channel. The bathrooms were spacious but definitely needed some renovating. Our toilet actually got clogged.... More

This was a 2 night business trip for me so I didn't pick the hotel, I ususally don't like old hotels, give me new and modern with big bathrooms and I'm happy. I already had it in my mind to not like this place especially given some of the negative comments about room size, bathroom size and noise. Upon my... More

We stayed here 1 night for a quick getaway after Thanksgiving. We lived in SF for 4 years, and figured for convenience we would stay on Market St. for our very short stay overnight in the city. This was a very nice, clean, updated hotel with a lot of history and charm. It is centrally located to Union Square and... More

The Palace Hotel is one of the old classic hotels in San Francisco. Loved the fact that it was within walking distance of many great restaruants. The service was outstanding from arrival to departure. I was particularly impressed with the concierge staff. The Pied Piper Bar is a great place for a drink. Rooms are spacious, although felt the decor... More

When I first arrived at the hotel and saw the lobby I thought absolutely stunning can't wait to see me room. However when I arrived to my 'deluxe room' there was this terrible bathroom smell, the carpets were filthy and there was a hole on the bed duvet! I was not impressed and ready to change hotels immediately (the smell... More

Great food and wine selection. The staff is helpful and a pleasure to be around. I would recommend this venue. I even forgot my coat there and was able to recover it back from their awesome Concierge over a week later!

The Palace is a lovely hotel very grand as you enter, reception was faultless and we went up to our room. The room was lovely but very small compared with others on our travels and lacked any view as it faced a wall. Bathroom was also fairly small but lovely toiletries and nice touches. Had dinner in the Pied Piper... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
