I stayed for two nights for a combo work/personal trip to SF. I love the location of this hotel. It's right on the Embarcadero, close to the Ferry Building (which is one of my favorite areas in SF) but it's removed from the hustle and bustle of Market Street. It's a historic building and an older hotel, renovated in the... More

Very small mattress not a queen size as advertised. Very small room for the high price and too much noise. Can't recommend this hotel. Good location for running the sf marathon though but expensive. Restaurant looked pretty good but didn't try it. Was hoping to have late checkout but they wouldn't allow

Only had one night here. Friendly staff and convenient location. Huge room Bathroom a bit tired. In fact the whole place is a bit dark, and could do with a sprucing up. It's clean but a bit dingy other than in reception. Too much brown and mustard everywhere. Would stay again. Lively hotel bar. Free morning coffee a nice touch.

Just stayed 4 nights at the Griffon for business - and it astonishes me how un-business-friendly this hotel is. The internet was down Sunday night, the AC in my room was not working and the few times that I tried to talk to staff they were rude and unhelpful. Breakfast does not begin before 7:30 am - which is too... More

I enjoyed staying at Griffon Hotel during 4th of July weekend. The location is terrific. Some of the greatest restaurants in town are just a couple of feet away. The Ferry building is two blocks away and Pier 39 is under a mile away. I'll definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking to experience the see sighting of the embarcadero.

This is a small hotel with excellent service, friendly people, and a wonderful casual restaurant (Perry's) on the main floor. It's practically across the street from the Ferry Building and only several blocks from the Embarcadero BART station. We never have to rent a car! The rooms are small, but excellent use of space. We love our room with a... More

Wow. We stayed in a bay view king room on the fourth floor. Best hotel view I've ever had. It was great seeing the Bay Bridge at sunrise and sunset. It was also fun to people watch. All of the employees I encountered were very friendly and helpful. We ate brunch at Perry's which was good. Good location for public... More

On the way to city we decided to catch a Giants game, it wasn't planned but we bought tickets, discounted off Game Time and then decided we would spend the night. I got on Trip Advisor and found the Hotel Griffon, it had a reduced rate for the night. It is right on the Embarcadero so we walked to the... More

We stayed here in order to go to see the "book of mormon". The room was small but charming. Exposed brick inside with a great view looking out over peir 14 and to treasure island. The bed was comfortable and all the stuff in the room worked fine. Only knock is that the rooms are small and house keeping came... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
