Normally when we're in S.F., we stay at one of the "chain" hotels near Union Square; however, since we were attending a play at the Orpheum, I decided to look for something different. After reading the reviews about Sleep Over Sauce, I booked a room for a very decent price. Communication from the hotel was excellent what with confirmations, follow-up... More

Finding a decent place to stay in a city as pricey as San Francisco is no small trick. After an 8 day stay, Sleep Over Sauce is a clear winner! Located in the Hayes neighborhood just north of Market Street, the rooms at SOS are clean and convenient to public transportation. The staff is great and helpful in advising travelers... More

We stayed at Sleep Over Sauce as they offered a discount with our subscription to San Francisco Opera's season. It's location on Gough, just down from Hayes, is excellent. Check in is easy. We used the door code they emailed us, and the cleaning staff checked us in. The room is small but well laid out. No air conditioning but... More

Finding the right combination of value and location in accommodation in San Francisco can be a challenge, even out of season, as every week seems to be in-season in that town. Having been shut out of our first choice in Haight-Ashbury, Sleep Over Sauce offered itself as an intriguing, affordable and well-situated alternative. SOS is located on Gough Street in... More

A nice hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. I met Amanda and Nina and they were lovely. As far as I know this is a family operated business and as soon as I arrived I was offered a coffee and breakfast (for free). Although it was really early (about 9 in the morning), I could get into my room.... More

The Common Room is OK. Great first impression, but that's where it ends. The wireless is slower than the first ever dial-up. There were 2....two.....2 coat hangers on a yard long rack thing up against the wall. My blanket had a hole in it that I could put my head through. I asked for one that didn't have a huge... More

This place was well worth the money we paid. Although the rooms are tiny, they are pretty clean and fit for purpose. We only slept and showered there, so it was more than fine! The bathrooms are renovated so that was good. The staff were very helpful in assisting us to get our luggage up the stairs to our room.... More

I recently stayed here and let me start off by saying, what an Awesome Name ! As soon As I arrived I was greeted and felt welcomed. When I stepped in the room I thought it would be just a basic looking room. To my surprise it looked awesome. I have an artistic eye and I saw everything coordinated very... More

There are nicer hotels in SF but you are going to pay 2 to 3 times as much to stay there (especially in peak season). This is a no frills hotel but it is comfortable, quiet, safe, clean and the restaurant attached is excellent. Hayes Valley is an up and coming neighborhood in San Francisco and we enjoyed exploring it.... More

Never heard any of the other guests. We stayed in the Haight Ashbury room. Named that, I would have expected some color, but there wasn't any. The bathroom was very small. The king bed was very comfortable, with those long body pillows. The fragrances of the linens and soap products were pleasant. No view. No air, but was comfortable with... More

Staying in Hayes Valley

Neighborhood Profile
Hayes Valley
Chock full of designer boutiques, art galleries, funky shoe stores, and great restaurants, it’s hard to imagine Hayes Valley once languished in the shadow of a major freeway. Its removal allowed for the creation of an attractive boulevard on Octavia Street with a community park at its center and dozens of trendy businesses to satisfy visitors looking for a stylish respite.
