Super cute hotel in busy 'Little Italy'. This is NOT a chain hotel so don't expect the same amenities but what in exchange is a little piece of 60's style and culture, with great service and advice, superior location to so much including Coit Tower, Pier 39 and Lombard Street just to name a few attractions! Surrounded by restaurants, cafe's,... More

loved the hotel - loved the rooms- loved the vibe- loved the location. Didn't love the occasional stale cigarette smoke... The complimentary sherry was just a great ending to a great day- AND a great beginning to a better evening!!

The location is perfect. It was a 20 minute walk to Union Square and about 15 minutes to the Pier. If you prefer large chain hotels (Hilton, Hyatt, Marriott, etc...) then Boheme is not for you. The room is VERY small and the bathroom is REALLY VERY small. But the room and bathroom are perfectly cute, small and impeccably clean!... More

We recently stayed at Hotel Boheme for four nights as part of our honeymoon & we weren't disappointed. The hotel is in a great location right in the middle of North Beach, within walking distance to Fishermans Wharf / Chinatown / Union Square. We were in one of the rooms at the front, the room was lovely and had everything... More

We were looking for somewhere in North Beach as we enjoyed that area a couple of years ago, as others say, this hotel has tons of character and the folk are lovely and helpful. Loads of amazing places to eat and drink within 10 minutes or so. Some of the places we enjoyed - Calzone's, Mama's, Don Pisto's, Reveille, Cavalli,... More

Hotel Boheme sits smack in the middle of North Beach. There's just a single doorway, on Columbus, that sits right next to Calzones. The rooms are small, but nice. If you're a light sleeper (like me) you may want to request a room in the back. If you want to experience the street life of North Beach, from your window,... More

Great place to stay in San Francisco. Old school hotel with very friendly staff, ready to help you anytime. Excellent location for visiting San Francisco. There are plenty of nice restaurants in the area. I would recommend the cafe place downstair.

If you get bent out of shape over stairs or lack of a coffee maker in your room than this is not the place for you. If you want to stay in a really interesting hotel that is in a perfect location to explore San Francisco than I'd say this is for you. The Hotel Boheme definitely delivers the "beat... More

I had booked this hotel for an overnight stay upon completing an Alaskan cruise. When booking, there was no mention of the lack of an elevator. My wife has had one knee replacement and also has a broken foot. Upon entering the 'ring bell' to enter the front door, I was greeted by a flight of stairs that lead to... More

Thanks for your response. I'm sorry your visit with us did not work out. I remember you and your wife. I carried your suitcases for you to your room. I did my best to make you comfortable but the stairs were too much for your wife. Our hotel was built in 1907 and is, like many old hotels in this... More

Stayed four nights at the end of September. Really couldn't be a better location! Easy walk to the wharf and embarcadero, marina, Chinatown, downtown. Right on a junction for bus routes. Perfect! Went out every night in North Beach, really safe and friendly, great atmosphere. So many great restaurants nearby, it's hard to choose. Hotel itself is fantastic, great decor.... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
