I'm 43 yrs old and visited the Clift SF from NYC on July 4th weekend with my girlfriend. To give context for our preferences, we typically hang in the East Village and Lower East Side in Manhattan, and enjoy drinks and appetizers rather than heavy meals that make you feel fat and tired. The Clift was excellent. Clift is a... more

Dear Scheijo, Besides thanking you for the glowing comments I have to at least thank you for the time and effort you put into your review! We have passed along your thanks to the Concierge and they are thrilled. Again, we're pleased as punch you had such a wonderful time and that we could be part of it. Do let...

The Clift combines a sweeping view, a prime location and a unique charm that makes it a winner. Just two blocks off Union Square, this property manages to meld Old World high-end seclusion with modern chic sensibilities. Colored-mirrored elevators combine with stalely redwood-paneled lobby decor for a decadent, yet playful effect. The rooms are spacious and bright, with grand views... more

An overall very nice hotel. Very modern feel on the inside and the old world charm of a heritage building on the outside. Close to all the major shopping and theatres. My only complaint is the the windows and walls didn't do much for sound. You could here everything outside and in the hallways while in your room. But if... more

Dear Superfly76, I wanted to thank you for your feedback. We try to do what we can to minimize the noise from neighboring rooms and always appreciate you letting us know when and how we can be better. (And that goes for just about everything we do!) Thank you again, and keep the comments coming! Best, Jenny

We had reservations for 4 nights and we checked out at 6:15 am following the first night’s stay. If you require more than 2 hours sleep per night this hotel is not for you. Beds were extremely uncomfortable, a brick platform would have been a improvement. The room’s windows are not insulated and the street noise was constant. I now... more

We would have loved a chance to turn the stay...

Partner and I stayed at Clift for Gay Pride. We also helped set up host a Hospitality Suite for our organization. Lobby and first floor area very stylish, mood is peaceful and calming which we appreciated given our hectic schedule. Service was AMAZING, fast and helpful. Partner is disabled and the staff went out of their way at every turn... more

Knights Out spent Pride Weekend with the Clift Hotel. We rented several rooms and the hospitality suite. We found the rooms to be spacious, tastefully decorated, and comfortable. The service was impeccable. We hosted a gathering of approximately 40 people in our hospitality suite and the staff of the Clift went above and beyond to tend to our needs and... more

We're thrilled to hear the suite made such an impression. Let us know when it's time for another gathering! Until then, the best from Clift...

Everyone at this hotel was simply amazing throughout the entire weekend at meeting our needs and ensuring we were well taken care of. Eric Shangle was our contact and helped us set everything up and was there for us throughout the weekend if we needed anything and helped us tie up some loose ends even after we left the hotel... more

The Clift Hotel was announced as one with a special design interior. And this was the case. Any daylight was taken out of the lobby, the bar, the restaurant etc... The first floor has the feel of a dungeon. Not what we were looking for if you come to discover San Francisco for a couple of days. Upon arrival the... more

Dear Janil, Thank you very much for taking the time to give us your feedback. I agree the lighting is very dramatic and we understand we're not suited to everyone's taste. We would love to have you back but if preference is the issue, we can certainly accept that Clift is not yours. I do hope you enjoyed the people,...

from the moment we pulled up to the front door, the clift and its staff impressed my fiancee' and me... the bellman, smartly dressed, took complete care of us and our car and made sure to know our names and greeted us personally as we would leave and return... the concierge team of erica, jenny and david got our restaurant... more

My husband and I celebrated our 31 anniversary at the Clift. The location was great but that was the only thing we liked about the hotel. The lobby and bar were very nice but the rooms were very small and not comfortable. There was no place to sit and read and the lighting was very bad. The bathroom was most... more
