My first time in San Francisco but definitely not my last! When we arrived we were greeted kindly and assisted with our luggage. The room was a bit smaller than expected but it had a wonderful charm that just added to the character of the hotel as a whole, it's also in a great location with many bars and sights... More

Staff is be kind, but the building is an older building with quite cramped rooms. I have a disability and a mobility scooter, and it was a little challenging fitting things in. But the location was great!

Dear Nickeu 12, Thank you for your review and for recognizing our staff. I can certainly understand how the smaller room size could be a challenge. We enjoyed our time at the Cartwright good location and the reception staff were extremely helpful. Rooms are a bit small and bathrooms and it is a bit worn but a great location and ideal for the tourist. No food or drinks served in the hotel but you can buy alcohol next door and get hot rinks across the road... More

Dear ctwales, Thank you so much for your review. The reception staff was thrilled to read your comments. I am glad you were able to take advantage of our amazing location. We are getting close to finalizing plans to refresh our property to get beyond that “worn look.” Cheers, Steven Viscio General Manager More

The room was a little bit like the photos but tiny ! In saying that you kinda expect that in an old building in San Fran. No fridge but front desk happy to bring an ice bucket up at any time. Great location , a short walk to union square and a cable car ride drops you off 100 meters... More

Dear Videochimp, Thank you for your comments. Your title is perfect; we have one of the best locations in San Francisco. Close to everything, but off the beaten path so you do not feel crowded. We do not hide that fact that we have small rooms, but our location more than makes up for it. We are proud to provide... More

One block from Union Square, next to the cable cars and so close to some great restaurants. My only gripe - it would be nice to have some tea - just normal tea, as well as the coffee provided. Parking was a little bit expensive it here are parking stations within walking distance for half the price. The staff are... More

Dear Sue L, Thank you for taking the time to recognize our wonderful team. Unfortunately parking can be a bit difficult and pricy in San Francisco. We try to combat those obstacles by offering self-parking for $29. Most hotels only have valet parking as an option. If you decide to park on the street just make sure you carefully read... More

Hotel is old but is clean and good enough if you are looking for a conveniently located hotel that is well-priced. Bathroom was a bit small and showed its age. Staff was friendly and helpful. Location was perfect.

Good value for money. Very friendly and helpful service. Top located very close to Union square right in the center of SF. Room was clean but not really spacey, small beds. No breakfast available, but Starbucks and 7Eleven right around the corner.

We spent forever searching for budget accommodation in San Francisco but found at the time we visited (early August) everything was booked out or very expensive. This was over our budget but we wanted something with a good location and relatively good reviews so we booked it. It is a hotel with beautiful old charm. Our room was very small... More

Dear ETree123, Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed review. The entire team appreciated your kind words about our staff. We stayed at the Hotel Cartwright in July. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and quite nice. But the real gem here is the location. It's in the absolute perfect spot in Union Square. A 2-3 minute walk from pretty much everything you need. We booked via pre-pay for your stay and saved an extra... More

The hotel is in a great spot closet to Union Square and Chinatown. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel has been there for about a hundred years. So like any old hotel this presents the problem of how often it gets refitted. Currently I'd say it be been 30 years at least. The rooms were clean but old.... More

Dear Struba, Thank you for your witty review. I am sorry it took so long to respond. The hotel is actually 100 years old this year. We hope to freshen up the hotel in 2014.
