Pluses - + near to union square and markets which implies easier access to everything + good internet speed + courteous staff- they were kind enough to open up their kitchen and allow me to use their microwave Minues- - small rooms but I guess at this price and in downtown, this is a norm

What a wonderful place to visit! We stayed at a one-bedroom suite. Very nice! The front desk staff were extremely helpful, polite, and FRIENDLY!! They were awesome--thanks to Martin! Excellent cleans room, good kitchen facilities! We were within a block of Union Square; Lori's Kitchen was always open!! Rob, Anthony, and Eric were very helpful!! They are the valet and... More

We were shocked by the price of accomodation in San Francisco versus other cities in america when on a multi-city trip. The Hotel Cartwright was still fairly expensive but was one of the more reasonably priced options with a good location. The hotel is reception is nice and new, the rooms and hallways are old but well kept however the... More

The hotel is pet friendly so does smell a bit and looks a bit dated, but the staff couldn't be more helpful and anywhere you need to find, they will show you how to get there. They also give you vouchers for 10% off at the 1950's style diner a couple of doors away which is a great place for... More

I was curious as to what we were in for after reading a few of the reviews on this page, but I have to say that I found this hotel charming, comfortable, and pleasant. The front desk staff were helpful and kind, the room was a good size (with a nice washroom that had obviously been upgraded recently), and the... More

I put off writing this review because we have stayed in supposedly haunted hotels and never really experienced anything. We have discussed the things that happened in our room and tried to chalk it up to an old building. It is an old building by American standards. I would leave it at that if it had just been flickering lights... More

This may be our new "go to" hotel for San Francisco. It is a charming, old style hotel (which I love) - but very clean and comfortable. It is literally around the corner from Union Square and a few minutes walk to the waterfront. Our room was quiet and the ceiling fan provided all the air that we needed to... More

Visiting Sf this hotel is close to perfect. Why? Location! Old rooms, distanced staff, no breakfast, but still worth it :-) Affordable and clean, no air-condition and expensive parking, still worth it :-) Close to shopping and cable cars :-) No problems to get around to all highlights in Sf :-)

Great location, friendly and helpful staff. We spent a couple of nights in this little hotel on Union Square. We had an 8th floor suite which was clean, comfortable and inviting. Will stay here again.

This hotel has definitely seen better days. Although obviously renovated and clean it is most likely one of the original hotels of San Francisco. The ground floor area is quite impressive with many comfortable lounge chairs, an open fireplace (when needed) and boardroom table. Quite impressive. Accommodation in Central San Francisco is expensive hence our reason for staying here...it is... More
