This fabulous, antique and funky hotel near Union Square is a step backward into the San Francisco I grew up in 55 years ago. Perfect location, parking available, and pet-friendly (within limits). Check it out.

The hotel Cartwright is a quaint hotel. It was in a perfect location and great price. One issue was the lobby bar was closed. There are plenty close by. We would absolutely say there again. Hopefully the remodel will happen soon so the lobby bar can reopen. The staff was very friendly and helpful

Thank you very much for your feedback. The renovation will happen hopefully in the coming months. We apologize for not having the bar open but we do have plenty of alternatives in the area. I will share your feedback with the team. Have a great day! More

Being an older style hotel, some things will be quirky but quaint. The small room size had a walk in wardrobe the same size as the bathroom. The water pressure in the shower was great as it was not one of those water saver shower heads. I liked the shower. What let this place down was the sticky carpet. Reminded... More

This hotel is a basic hotel located in the center of union square. Walking distance to all the shopping and dinning in the union square area. Located along sutter making it easy to walk around since there's no steep uphill walks. As it is a basic hotel there is no restaurant which really isn't an issue coz there's lots of... More

This is an old hotel (built 1913), and has had some changes made to keep up with the modern times (e.g flat screen TV, queen bed, free wifi, modern-ish bathroom, etc) and does not try to be anything more than a 3 star hotel, but in saying that, it was very (and I mean exceptionally) clean. The staff were very... More

I recently had the pleasure of staying at 'The Cartwright'. Although built in 1915, the hotel proved to be a great place to stay during our 4 days in San Fran. The property had been excellently maintained over the years and as was expected, the rooms were smaller than those of a hotel built today, however the quaint ambiance more... More

This is certainly not the best hotel I've ever stayed in. However, it was clean, decent and the staff was really friendly and welcoming. The room was tiny, the bed was small (regular double), squeaky and fairly uncomfortable. During my first night the heater was making terrible noises waking me up every couple of hours. Luckily, that was fixed the... More

Thank you so much for the feedback. We do apologize for the heat and the noises coming out of it. Our system is a steam system so some of our heaters tend to collect a lot of water. I am happy we were able to move you to another room however. Thanks again and have a great day. More

The Hotel Cartwright is a real gem in the heart of Union Square. From the moment you arrive till the moment you checkout, everyone at the Cartwright makes you feel so incredibly welcome and at home, including your little dog. The Cartwright is truly pet friendly, and they do not charge at all for your pet to stay there. Other... More
