This is a nice hotel well located in SF, close to 280 highway. Valet/parking is I think $40/night. Not your typical US chain hotel, breakfast is a la carte ( no tasteless buffet which I liked)...I ordered the eggs benedick, not the best I had but were good. Staff is cordial. Our room was a two bed, big enough to... More

This hotel is ALWAYS such a great experience. The staff is SO NICE and helpful with calling cabs, recommending dining, shows.....The library lobby/bar is cozy and warm. Hotel Rex is our little gem and we hate sharing this secret; but its too good not to. Rooms are spotless too!!

My husband and I recently went to San Francisco for a short getaway and we stayed at Hotel Rex for 4 nights. The hotel was in a really great location. Everything was walking distance. Since we did not have a car, it was perfect! It's about a 10 minute walk to union square shopping area. The hotel was in a... More

I was in San Francisco for only one night and after seeing the room I would have liked to have stayed at least one more night. After a past experience at a Joie de Vivre hotel (Custom Hotel in Los Angeles) I was a little skeptical of staying with that brand again. They totally redeemed the brand in this one... More

Dear Joshua, Thank you for the wonderful review. I am so pleased that you decided to give Joie de Vivre another chance. You are correct in that we did upgrade you three tiers above to our One Bedroom King Suite. We do that sometimes if there are a lot of available rooms. I'm happy to hear that we made your... More

San Francisco, alone among US cities, has plenty of small, boutique hotels that provide a US level of services. Hotel Rex is my favorite - I rate it five stars not because it is a traditional five start hotel but it is exactly what it wants to be, delivering on the promise of a small, conveniently located, and funky small... Dear Michael, Thank you for the wonderful compliments in your review. We like to think the Rex is an oasis in the middle of the tourist mecca too. I'm happy to hear that we delivered on our promise of great service in a relaxed, boutique atmosphere. We would love to welcome you back soon on your next stay. Best, Chris... More

A charming spot in the thick of things. Very affordable. One of the best hotel lobby/bars ever. Very comfortable bed, no more or less than what we needed. The staff was awesome. Loved it and will be back.

I traveled to San Francisco for a conference and had to find a place to stay near Union Square. Hotel Rex is a charming, quiet and safe hotel located on Sutter-between Mason and Powell Streets. I was greeted by Katie and Sarah, who were kind and friendly while checking me into my room. They were eager to provide recommendations on... More

Thank you for your wonderful review. I'm delighted to hear that Katie and Sarah were so welcoming and impacted your stay at the Rex in such a positive manner. They have been personally recognized and greatly appreciate your kind words. Jeff is thankful too and is always up for discussing pets. We miss Max dearly as well. I look forward... More

Excellent location. Only blocks from great shopping and restaurants. Quaint and charming hotel. Comfortable beds. The library bar was cozy and quiet, just a pleasant place to have a glass of wine and relax after a day exploring San Francisco. We had to rent a car one day and get a ride to the airport VERY early when we left... More

My daughters and I had the perfect weekend at the Hotel Rex in San Francisco. The location is absolute perfection. You can't be more centrally located. We walked everywhere we wanted to go to. The hotel has character and history. Our room was clean and the beds very soft. I can't speak highly enough of the staff that helped us... More

Hotel is very well maintained, caters to the Artsy type of traveler. The staff is superb and location is fantastic. You can walk everywhere or take public transportation within steps of the hotel. I wasn't aware they do not have an onsite gym, however they offer discounted rates at a nearby gym. Other than that, excellent stay for a short... More
