The hotels in the city were full because of the marathon. It was also hot that weekend. The hotel is old and doesn't have the same amenities as a newer cheaper hotel. My problems were mainly with non-working / inadequate air conditioning, no ice, no maintenance staff. I had to change rooms because the first room had a broken air... More

Great service, perfect location, they fulfilled my reservation exactly as I requested. Ask for a quiet room, in the back. I was attending a business event at a nearby hotel. My colleagues who stayed at the conference hotel, found it to be very noisy. I slept great, and enjoyed the friendliness of all the staff at the Rex. I would... More

I spent a comfortable week there and would strongly consider coming back. Service is top quality. The breakfast service and food were very good. WiFi was strong, but Verizon service was weak. Nights were quiet (I did not face the street).

Sophisticated interior design, clean, comfortable and well maintained. Room size typical of older hotels. Well-located near Union Square, 5-10 minute walk to BART. Staff friendly and helpful. Excellent coffee set out each morning. Free wifi in room worked well. Very good quality for a reasonable price. Happy with our choice and would stay again.

This is a lovely hotel, beautifully decorated and European in feel. My room was quite small, and didn't have a view to speak of (I'm not sure any of the rooms would, though). However, it was quiet, clean and had all of the facilities needed. The hotel itself has free wine in the early evening (this is common in SF,... More

This is, by far, the best hotel I have stayed in San Francisco. Location is great, rooms are beautiful decorated, ammenities are high quality, and the service was exceptional. KUDOS to Jeff & Gitanjali, they went above and beyond to make us feel special and showed real customer service, They are the best!

It depends what you want out of a hotel (and life, for that matter). For me, traveling frequently on business, the main things are being able to get the attention of the staff, cleanliness of course, location, and feeling like I am somewhere that has a distinct character. Cool stuff and gadgets mean absolutely nothing to me. You will not... More

I stayed at Hotel Rex from July 5-9, 2014 with friends and we were very pleased with our stay. The desk staff were very friendly and accommodating and helped arrange transportation for us from our hotel to the airport. Our room and bathroom were clean and the atmosphere was very cozy and quaint. The hotel took care of the original... More

This hotel has a great central location that is just off the main street, so it's nice and quiet, but still close enough to transit, shops and restaurants. Hotel staff was extremely friendly and helpful--although we did not initially plan on going on a wine tour, the concierge highly recommended one and helped us book it. We stayed in an... More

I stayed at the Hotel Rex for 10 days for a work trip. The staff is super friendly and the hotel offers so much to guests, including the free glass of wine between 5 and 6 every night at the bar ;) It's located super close to Union Square and there are lots of restaurants and stores close by. I... More
