The Rex opened in 1907 and must have been a beautiful place on opening day. It's been restored and updated as a Joie de Vivre hotel, a group well known for its boutique hotels around the world. The rooms are decorated in South of France colors and with matching artwork. Prices are reasonable, particularly considering where the hotel is situated--... More

I enjoyed my stay and the people are very friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and well appointed, very clean and the overall vibe of the hotel is awesome. The location is excellent and you're walking distance from just about anything you could want. The room I had didn't really have a view, but that didn't matter to me.... More

We stayed at the Hotel Rex this past weekend. The hotel is very clean, the staff is incredibly friendly, and the location is perfect. Less than one block away from a cable car stop, a parking garage is right around the corner on Mason. Union square is just a short walk away. The room was a nice size, everything functioned... More

The room is is small ,but has everything that you need. The staff is just so sweet and genuine. They are being nice because they are nice NOT just because. Loved the morning newspaper, valet parking, drinks in the lounge lending library and heartfelt eating suggestions. We keep coming back because this is a place with heart!

We go to SF several times a year and always try to book a room at The Rex. One block from Union Square, we love the friendly staff, the old world feel, the colorful rooms and the comfortable feel of the library bar. They offer a complimentary glass of wine in the bar during "happy hour" and live music on... More

One of the best hotels I've stayed in SF, really friendly, great location, live music and a free glass of wine, nice touch. Quiet room at the back, very comfortable. Different in a good way, not your standard big chain hotel.

I like class and polish. This place is a classic hotel. Very helpful staff. The room was nice with a very good bathroom. Interestingly the place had older decor but it didn't feel dated. Clearly it is done to a classic look. Free internet which was good. Clean. But a little small on reflection. That was the strange thing about... More

We've stayed here several times, but a couple things we wished we knew in advance. Service of staff is great, location is great. We took a room in back on the 6th floor. It was quiet. Rooms along the front are not! Needing improvement - the bed - I think it's old mattress and was wrapped in a zipped synthetic... More

The Hotel Rex is full of history, whimsy and charm. While not our usual type of venue for a business event, this hotel proved to be a great choice for my team. The hotel staff are overwhelming helpful and gracious, the location - just off Union Square - is ideal for daytime walks and night time celebrations.

We love the location of the Rex...perfect for the theater, restaurants and shopping. Front desk staff are very helpful and friendly and the valet park and storage is perfect. Saturday's are a quieter night at the hotel.....Friday night is perfect with the music and happy hour and we were pleasantly surprised with how good the food is! We recommend this... More
