Centrally located right near Union Square, and a block to the Cable Car on Powell - the Hotel Rex is a great spot to base yourself when visiting SF. Heaps of bars and restuarants (non touristy ones too if you look hard enough) are within walking distance, and Sutter Street is busy enough to ensure Taxi's/Uber Cars are always nearby... More

We stayed here for 4 nights and found it to be a perfect location. As central as you can be in San Francisco. Just around the corner from Union Square. It's got a hipster look with none of the bad attitude. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Really comfortable clean rooms. They have free coffee in the lobby between... More

The floor in room 704 is so uneven, it is not safe. The furniture is frayed and the hotel badly needs an update. The staff is excellent, I felt the hotel was clean but it felt drab. The location is excellent.

I've stayed at the Hotel Rex several times & it's my go-to hotel for SF at this price point. The rooms are cozy & classic (rather than trendy/modern), and in my experience, light-filled (ask for a high floor). The location is convenient - close enough to walk to the BART & shopping, but removed enough that there's not a lot... More

The bed was bit harsh, and it sounded like a porn movie was shooting in the next door. The staff was really nice though. I don't know if it was just bad luck, but the action going on in room next door was just way too much. Don't expect a window or any air flow.

Comfy beds, attentive staff, lovely Art Deco theme - all made for a nice mother/daughter long Mother's Day weekend. Quick walk to public transport, but Uber was the quickest, and still very cheap from Rex to anywhere else. The area was very safe to walk about in the evenings as well. Easy trip to Wakgreens for any forgotten travel necessities.... More

I love the Hotel Rex. It has a great ambience, both the rooms and the public areas, and is in a perfect location to see the sights of San Francisco. It is not a "luxury" hotel, but a very classy place none the less. The staff is very friendly and helpful. No breakfast on the weekends, but coffee is available... More

I thought the location was going to be really really noisy and was hesitant about staying here originally but I was wrong! I asked for a room in the back (drawback: no view) but it was amazingly quiet. The room was large and beds were comfortable. The location was great too- almost right in union square. They have a complimentary... More

We were greeted as soon as we stepped out of our taxi outside the hotel. The staff were so friendly and so helpful and I really can't fault them in any way. The room we stayed in was quite small and basic but it done the job. The location of the hotel is perfect, within walking distance of Union Square,... More

We stayed here on the start of our 3 week road trip across california and after a long flight from the uk this hotel was just perfect. We arrived after getting the Bart from the airport to union square then walking a couple of blocks to hotel at around 5.15 and was checked into our room straight away by very... More
