Complaints of construction issues is - in our opinion - extremely exaggerated. I personally spoke with the contractor, who detailed their process... working only in the winter/spring months. They are completely overhauling this family-owned property inside and out, up and down. The family is not scrimping on doing the renovation... the elevator alone rivals any other hotel, anywhere. Every mechanical... More

My family and I stayed for one night and were not disappointed. The lodge is centrally located in the friendly Castro neighborhood, close to restaurants and cafes. It seems that they're renovation project is almost completed, so there shouldn't be any issues with that. However, I must mention that if you're a light sleeper you might wake up with the... More

As tourists, we like to immerse ourselves in the culture and daily life of the city we are visiting. Thus, upon visiting San Francisco for the first time, we didn't want to stay at a downtown tourist hotel in Union Square. Beck's Motor Lodge was a fantastic location near a subway line and all forms of public transportation AND it... More

Perfect location, close to the Castro & easy access everywhere else being on Market st. We had 2 reservations & both times stayed in the back king size rooms, very spacious, clean, good bathrooms and more importantly very quiet. The staff we amazing, friendly, always happy to give tips or pretty much help out any way possible. Would stay again... More

Had a nice stay in a recently remodeled room facing the quiet Sanchez Street. I have stayed hear for years. You are in the neighborhoods. Lots of shops and restaurants including Peets Coffee across the street and the SF Fitness Gym nearby. Room was great -- no more gas wall heater issues, etc. Highly recommended.

Beck's used to have a rep as a place as a seedy motel for partying. However, they have renovated the rooms (and are currently working on the outside). The rooms have been remodeled and given a modern makeover with warm low key colors. The bed was more comfortable than mine at home and they told me it was from Ikea!... More

Stayed here just overnight for my daughter's appointments at UCSF in Mission Bay. Location is very central to shops, dining and public transportation, all walking distance. Rooms are clean, renovated, nice shower, mini fridge, safe, good internet. Parking lot clean and plentiful. Staff was friendly and helpful. Negatives were very full large pillows, kinda uncomfortable and very noisy until after... More

Overall a great renovated hotel. I loved the mid-century modern aesthetics and the centralized location to any and everything in the Castro, Church and Market St areas. The staff was very friendly and you even receive free coffee across the street at the cute little bakery. My only complaints are 1) the price and 2) the noise. I wouldn't normally... More

I used to live in SF and am very familiar with this hotel both as a resident and a visitor. I really appreciate the renovations they've made to some of the rooms. The room I stayed in on the back side of the third floor was wonderful. Very chic, quiet, and well-designed.

Staying in The Castro

Neighborhood Profile
The Castro
A flourishing commercial area that acts as San Francisco's LGBT community center and cultural heart, the Castro is a neighborhood welcome to everyone. As one of the first predominantly LGBT neighborhoods in the United States and currently its largest, it remains one of the epicenters of activism in the nation. Grand theaters and glitzy shops now compete with bars and fashionable eateries for attention, drawing visitors from around the world to the bright rainbow flag acting as its beacon.
