Alaska 2014 I have long dreamed of going salmon fishing in Alaska and found the Bristol Bay area in the Southwest is world famous for this. I also found there are several varieties of salmon which vary in size, quality and migrate on different rivers during different times of year. So I developed criteria for the trip: lodging with bedding... More

We were very pleased with the lodge and staff. Everyone from the Owner to camp hands (thanks Brandon) were very polite, professional, and friendly. They made us feel like a family! Our trip was a birthday gift to my wife to photograph bears, and wow did we see bears up close and personal. Our guides for bear viewing, Ted and... More

We spent 5 days here in July primarily for bear watching, but also spent a day fishing. A previous reviewer had it just right that feelings about this lodge depend on your expectations. If you want a 5-star Hilton Resort, this is not for you. If you are looking for a great vacation for either fishing or bear watching, set... More

My wife and I and another couple went to KAL on a trip that focused exclusively on seeing the bears at Brooks Falls. Daily we were given a big breakfast, a boxed lunch, and driven to the float plane in the morning and picked up at the float plane in the evening and taken back to the hotel for a... More

This lodge is a great base for great adventure. Day 1, wife and I fished. Had two encounters with bears and 1 with a moose and cub. Great photos and great fishing (thanks Ted). Day 2 and 3, float plane flights from King Salmon to Katmai. Day 2 photos of 15 different brown bears at Brooks Falls and lunch at... More

I too run bear photography workshops out of Katmai Adventure Lodge and have for a couple years. I appreciate that Brad arranges all of the flights etc from Anchorage so all my clients have to do is get to Anchorage. We all are met at the King Salmon airport and driven to the lodge and set up in our rooms.... More

The first thing you need to realize is that the Katmai Adventure Lodge is expensive. Really expensive. $3,500 for three nights/two days for two of us. That rate includes round-trip air from Anchorage to King Salmon, but even then you're looking at over $800 a night. That can't help but create certain expectations, and the KAL falls far short of... My husband and I spent five days at Katmia Adventure Lodge in August, 2012. The hospitality was outstanding, the food was excellent and the Guides were experienced and extremely knowledgeable. My husband is a fisherman and I go along for the ride. I caught huge salmon and loved the bear watching at Margot Creek and Moraine Creek. The owner provided... More

I recently led a bear photography tour/workshop in Katmai and we used Katmai Adventure Lodge for their guides and hospitality. My students and I were very pleased with the entire experience. First of all, this is not a "high end" lodge, nor does it purport to be. We were more concerned with being out in the field photographing bears than... More

My family of 4 with a 12 year old girl and 15 year old boy loved this place! I think we would all say that the experience exceeded our expectations. Weather and wildlife conditions can fluctuate substantially from day to day so you always have some risk that the lodge can't deliver the outdoor adventures you had hoped for. We... More
