This is our second stay at the Black Friar. FriarTom and his merry band (Jenn, Taylor, Don, Nadine) all work to create an absolutely wonderful place to stay in Bar Harbor. Our room was beautiful and the Inn was comfortable and welcoming. We ate several times at the Inn during our stay because of the gourmet menu and the reasonable... More

My wife and I just finished off our honeymoon at the black friar and had a blast! We split up our week on the island at another inn downtown that was waaaaaay overpriced and snobby (there's surprisingly a lot of that in bar harbor hotels). The black fair was anything but that- and on top of the casual, comfy at... More

We had a wonderful stay at the Black Friar Inn. Friar Tom was amazingly helpful and the staff was great. And Jenny had such a personality.....we loved her! The Inn was very quaint and homey. We rented Room 1 and had a nice outdoor porch which we enjoyed regularly. It was quiet even on the night they had live music.... More

The Black Friar Inn is very, very slightly out of town which has tremendous advantages: it's just a five minute walk to the centre of Bar Harbor, there is no problem with parking, and you are away from crowds. What can we say about the owner, Friar Tom? He's laid-back but professional, welcoming, courteous, helpful, friendly and considerate. Michelle, who... More

At the height of tourist season in Bar Harbor, the Black Friar Inn was a little sanctuary of relaxation and comfort. We were in town for a gig that evening in the Black Friar's pub and couldn't have asked for a more pleasant stay after a long drive to get there. We had Room 6, which was small but well... More

After a three to four hour journey from Pownal, ME to Bar Harbor, my wife and I were greeted by Chef Don, who took a break from preparing the evening special (Bangers and Mash! I liked this place already..) to show us to our cosy, comfy and clean room, at the very top of the inn, right beside the roof... More

This was a very casual, clean and hospitable stay in a convenient location. The bed was very comfortable and it felt like staying with family (maybe distant family). The breakfast trumped the dinner for us and the friendly environment was the winner over all. Recommended.

We stayed 5 nights and found the room large, clean and very comfortable. Friar Tom was a Hoot. The food prepared by Chef Don was superb. Location is in walking distance to everything. We loved it! The entertainment on Thursday night was very nice.

We stayed at the Black Friar Inn in the middle of June which is a quieter time of the busy season. The inn was a relaxing retreat with a very short stroll to downtown, the Bar Island low tide walk way, and a grocery store. I can't say enough about the close proximity to everything. It's a few minute drive... More

My wife and I stayed here during a short get away to Maine to see Acadia and the fall colors. The inn was great, the staff was all very friendly and helpful, the breakfasts were great and the room was just what we needed. I would have to say one of the perks was having a pub in the bottom... More
