My husband and I stayed here on October 9th/13! Bar Harbor is a great town, we hadn't been before and loved it, we will be back! The Central House is just that, very central and a great spot to wander around the little shops and down by the water! We were met by the super friendly staff who showed us... More

We stayed in 205, recently upgraded with a 'king size' bed, two arm chairs and small table. Hopefully there will be bedside tables in due course. The floors are polished wood, which does mean you can hear footsteps from above. (Hope for considerate guests). The bathroom is small but OK. The house has such charm with two staircases, a large... We stayed here for 3 nights in Room 206. Everything was great. The room was comfortable. We liked the public areas and took advantage of sitting on the front porch and the room with tables. It was a nice touch to have coffee/tea with the Keurig machine 24/7. Convenient location if you want to be close to the harbor, restaurants,... More

I stayed at the Central House for three nights in early August 2013. It literally is in the center of the two main streets of activity. Park your car there and walk everywhere you need to go in town. I was looking for a clean, safe place where I could be left to myself, but have someone available to ask... More

I stayed at The Central House for 4 nights. It was my first trip to Bar Harbor and I relied on the reviews I read on this site. The price and location are fabulous. The room was clean and comfortable. Beth was so helpful with suggestions, brochures, maps, etc. There is a lovely room where you can make tea, coffee,... More

Stayed 4 nights with my wife and in-laws in two very nice rooms. Rooms are nicely appointed, cozy and compliment an inn with a lot of character. The location is perfect! Just off Main Street, a few minutes walk from the water, restaurants and the town square! We started off our bike through Acadia from a bike shop just a... More

For the price in Bar Harbor, you can't beat the prices here. I didn't care to have food, a swimming pool, or any extras. I just wanted a clean inexpensive place to stay. Complimentary tea, coffee, snacks, and Ice in the break room. Can't go wrong. Would definitely stay again.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Central House was built as a guest house in 1887. Tourism was just getting started in Bar Harbor. Much has changed since then and The Central House is now right down the street from many Bar Harbor shops, tours, restaurants, and the Island Explorer shuttle bus to Acadia National Park and Sand Beach. We offer Maine-roasted coffee and a selection of teas at 8 o'clock every morning. While we do not serve food, we provide a $10.00 gift card per room per day to lunch and dinner favorite Geddy's Restaurant facing the harbor. Our living room, front porch, and coffee area provide comfortable places to sit and enjoy your own food and drink and wireless internet is complementary throughout the house. Our rooms are simple and cozy with A/C, cable TV, and private bathrooms. Each room is uniquely furnished and decorated and many returning guests reserve their favorite rooms year after year. Rooms have a queen-sized bed, except Room 206 with a king-sized bed, and Room 204 has an extra twin-sized bed in addition to the four-posted queen to comfortably sleep three. We have been told by many guests that they find The Central House is a great value for the charm and ideal location. We hope to hear from you this season! ... more   less
