I work part of the year on oahu. I love to come here to get away. I always stay in the grass shacks. Right on the beach, you can have fires, and it's quiet! It's where I "vacation" away from work. I went to stay in December and it is shut down (dangerous trees?) and I was bummed. Hope they... More

beautiful location, homeless/drug addicts roam the campground. I stayed for 4 nights in a campervan. You can't tell who the campground staff are because they don't drive marked vehicles or wear uniforms. You can't access your campsite with a vehicle, so campervan camping is (not allowed, but it seems to be tolerated anyways) in the parking lot. You can't go... More

Been camping here several times. Nothing as weird as this trip happened. Was approached by a hostile drunk old dude who knew the cats at the campground by name and said several derogatory statements to me while standing over me and refusing to leave. I saw him again the second night but ran far, far away. Next day, packed my... More

This could be be paradise, but the management do not spend a cent to update or simply clean, repair this place. Horrible bug problems in the yurts, no electricity, the wifi not working, serious toilet cleaning issues. The "hot showers" are outside solar water pipeline. The beach area is dangerous with sharp rocks. We are not coming back for sure.... More

We stayed 5 nights at FOM during the independence day holidays. This is definitely the best camping area on the island. Don't go to state parks, they are full of bums and creepy looking individuals. FOM was safe, we didn't see anyone sketchy. The place is clean. We rented a place for a tent so cannot comment on the conditions... More

We had an amazing stay at this campsite. Our campsite was clean, and the staff was nice enough to let us move to the closet to the ocean site the last two nights we were there. The property was safe and gated to keep out riffraff. The gate does close at 7pm sharp, but because we were still on eastern... More

Unfortunately the cabins are run down and no longer for rent. The bathrooms are porta-potties and you can imagine how they smell when the full day sun hits them. There are feral cats and chickens EVERYWHERE. I like the chickens though, but could drown the damn cats. If you leave anything out the cats will get into it. Dogs are... More

First make sure that you reserve the correct camp site! Friends of malekahana is a private campsite and is different to the state recreation camp site! Friend of Malekahana has camp sites, cabins and yurts. We stayed on a campsite! The location is superb, service very nice, camp hostess and security on site all the time! Nice people, strict rules,... More

We stayed here for 4 days of our 6 day vacation. Rather than staying in a tent, we rented a campervan from Hawaii Camper Rentals. We had a great time camping, playing on the beach with the kids, and having a nice campfire at night with marshmallows. A great mellow campground with good bathrooms and showers. A great way to...
