Stayed there in December and I couldn't believe the disgusting room that they put us in! It smelt like urine and when I complained the guy at reception was so rude back.I got charged twice, once on my credit card and I paid cash, not been able to get it back yet...I wonder if it went into his back pocket.???

My brother Curt and I stayed here two nights in January this year and we highly recommend staying here. It was clean, very reasonable bike and surf board rentals as well a convenient walk to Waimea Bay. Easy bike ride to and from Sunset Beach and the local grocery stores and restaurants. Much thanks to our gracious host Connor, Craig... More

If you want to see the real Hawaii and experience it properly, stay here. I stayed for 4 nights in plantation village. It was great. Good vibes and had a great surfer vibe, clean rooms and amazing coastline. Northshore hasn't been commercialised and neither has here. Craig at the front desk was super helpful and accommodating. It's right across from... More

Had a great time at backpackers - I can't speak for the plantation village as I was at the Main house - but it was a lovely old house, good communal area and great location. It's definitely not glamorous, pretty tattered but for $30 a night for a dorm and you're only really there to sleep so why care! Even... More

This place is an insult to Hawaii. We stayed in two different crappy and dirty rooms during 5 days, I rarely let reviews..but this time it's worth it. Why so dirty? When we check-in the floor was so dirty that my baby was black and dusty after a sec. I've asked the front desk to mob the floor and they... More

As the business owner I would first like to say that I sincerely apologize that you had a bad experience with us. I am making sure that our cleaners pay extra attention to making sure the rooms are a clean as possible. We are low to medium budget option and are not trying to be the hilton. We are not... More

I had a good time in the area but for the price this place is really pretty bad. I have stayed in hostels all over the World and this one was by far the grimiest and I am not fancy. I went in thinking it would be a surfers hostel so had pretty low expectations and I can say they... More

We have stayed across the street in the studio units a couple of times before. It was a cheap price (then about $85) in a good location. Unfortunately the price has gone up significantly without any type of improvement. First the good: They were very nice when we had to change one night of our reservation outside the stated window.... Upstairs in the back house was clean, reasonably priced and therefore good value. Pre booking was hard (no replies) so booked through Hotels.com. Hostel has access to 3rd party deals so ask. I paid more booking directly for SCUBA trip. Bikes are bad but what do you expect for $5/day. I'd have pay $15/day for a safe reliable bike.

I can't comment on the shared rooms but the private rooms were excellent. Clean, a bit of storage space and a bathroom shared between two or three rooms only. The location is great if you're there for the surf.

The people who 'live' here are nice for the most part once they decide your not a cop. Some of them are pretentious vagrants that think the world owes them a favor. The kitchens are full of unwashed dishes. The refrigerator are all filled with rotten food. The bed are all about to come crashing down. Pretty much a stoners... More
