Clean, accommodating, close to shops and restaurants, free daily tours (including Road to Hana)....what more can you ask for? I'm so happy I booked my Maui stay in Paia at this awesome, amazing hostel. Thank you North Shore Hostel!

The staff was terribly, terribly unpleasant. Also, the location of this hostel is terribly inconvenient (although they do offer tours). After just spending time at a hostel on Oahu, I was shocked by how different this experience was. The common room is way too small, and always in use by the guests who have been staying for quite a while,... More

Dear Katbouro... Yes indeed unfortunate...most of our guests enjoy our terribly, terribly unpleasant staff and terribly inconvenient location, we're sorry you were shocked by this experience. We are in the process of enlarging our common room so that you can squeeze in and join and not feel guilty. And we DO NOT OFFER tours so I'm not sure what you... More

Overall, it's a bit dirty and a lot loud with the constant TV playing. The staff is unhelpful and just refers you to a brochure or Lonely Planet if you ask any questions about Maui sightseeing. Really doesn't seem the staff cares about the guests or trying to be even a little helpful. Definitely not the usual friendly vibe of... More

Dear Amy...while we can find no record of your stay with us, and some of your complaints would indicate otherwise (TV is on ONLY from 2pm -10pm & please see our other reviews about how gracious we are about helping guests with tourist information, etc...) we nonetheless take your complaints seriously. Sorry you had to wait to get your laundry... More

This hostel is one of the best I've ever been. It looks more like a big home than actually a hostel. Very clean and very nicely decorated. Janine, the receptionist is very nice and helpful. After 10pm all the hostel becomes very quiet. There are rules for each and everything but everyone seems to follow then which is quite nice.... More

Scott was very friendly, he helped us whenever we needed. The place has a parking lot which was good for us. The whole hostel is clean and friendly. You can use their phone and computer for free (even for internatinal calls.) You are free to make pancakes in the morning, or coffee.

Truly one of the best places I have ever stayed for the price. All the staff were exceptional. It is well ran, clean and secure. Scott's sense of humor and his dedication to making everyone's stay as safe and fun as possible was great. I stayed 10 days at Northshore and my only regret was not staying longer. I felt... More

Staff member Scott welcomed us and gave an initial orientation tour of hostel procedures. We felt at home immediately. The hostel has a well equiped Kitchen ( with free panackes for breakfast !). There are 4 shared bathrooms but there never seemed to be a long wait time. The rooms were plain but clean and the beds comfortable. As an... More

Nice location and plenty of parking in the lot across the street. Clean and neat and affordable. It's on the 2nd floor so be prepared to hull your luggage up the front entrance. Door is secured and not on the street side. You get a personal tour and the employee pointed to the numerous security cameras. The kitchen can get... More

Northshore Hostel sits above Main Street in Wailuku (central Maui) and has the entrance behind the building, down the short alley and has a door code for access. A good sized parking lot is across the street, great if you've rented a car (a must for Maui!). Much like Hawaiian culture, the staff is laid back and friendly. The rooms... More
