Found this charming B and B in Fodor's boo. Off the beaten path in Hana, Maui. Actually a detached room off a larger house owned by Mercury and Sam (mother, daughter team). Set on some spectacular gardens about 9 miles from Hana. The place was charming and private. Large selection of popular movies and kitchenette on deck. Could see whales... more

My partner and I just returned from two wonderful nights spent at the Ala'aina and couldn't be happier. If you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing and unique place to stay, with ocean and sunset views, this is the place for you. Sam and Mercury could not have been more welcoming or gracious - we were delighted to find starfruit,... more

We stayed 3 nights at Sam and Mercury's B&B, which is 8 miles outside Hana. We loved it! The room was beautiful. The setting is peaceful with ocean views on 2 sides. We woke up every morning with the sunrise and the ocean breezes. The location was amazing. The B&B is 2 miles from beautiful waterfalls, the 7 Sacred Pools,... more

I came to Maui for a solo trip in September 2009. I had lived in West Maui for three years in the late '90's, but had never explored the remote east side of the island beyond Hana. Packing a swimsuit, mask, snorkel, shorts, a few t-shirts and my watercolor paints, I landed in Kahului, got my rental car, and prepared... more

When you wake up in this lovely multi-windowed cottage, you ARE in Paradise. The beautiful wild landscaping, the mountains, the ocean, the coconut palms, the mango trees, the rope swing, the rolling lawn, the hidden bejeweled statues, the banana grove, the outdoor shower, the outdoor kitchen, the beautiful woodwork, the vibrantly colored flowers indoors and out, the beautiful-souled Sam and... more

Our 1st trip to Maui, this was the 2nd B&B we stayed at on the island. We stayed here three nights, and feel that is the minimum needed to really enjoy the Hana area. Simply outstanding place to stay - impeccable grounds, like staying at a botanical garden. Beautiful room with huge, cozy bed, double size shower, deck overlooking the... more

My wife and I came here for 4 days after 4 days in south Maui to continue our second honeymoon. We only wish we could have stayed longer. There's too much to say that coud fit in a simple review. As we drove up for the first time, my wife said excitedly "It looks just like their website!" Sam and... more

We so enjoyed our stay, only sorry we didn't have a chance to stay longer so we could enjoy the views, the tranquility, the views of the ocean from our bed, see more of the sights around Hana. The sounds are birds, cows, and quietness. The special care that Sam her daughter took in placing flowers, etc in our room... more

We stayed in Kipahulu at the Ala'aina Ocean Vista as part of our Honeymoon in July 2009. The bed and breakfast was very private, tucked away on a hilly area overlooking the ocean. The bedroom was very nice with little geckos coming in to say Hi, which did not bother us really. The bathroom was beautiful with a two person... more
