If you are looking to get away from the maddening crowds at hotels and resorts, this is the place for you. Bill and Machiko Heyde have a slice of paradise Upcountry. Everything is taken care of--extremely clean, well-equipped, and private location. You can truly appreciate the "real" Maui experience from here--cool nights, great sunsets, and gorgeous starscapes at night. The... More

It was a girlfriend weekend and a wonderful stay at this cottage in up-country Maui. Two bedrooms, 2 baths, plenty of room for the four of us. The kitchen allowed us to prepare our own breakfast before we set out on our driving trips. Our hosts were wonderful and the cottage has every little touch that a visitor might like.... More

We found this darling little cottage on your TripAdvisor website. We stayed there from Nov. 20-24 and we’re glad we did! We usually stay in a hotel or condo in the Kaanapali tourist area so this was a wonderful change of pace for us. On the way to the cottage, you will pass through winding roads and rolling pastures. You... More

We stayed for three nights at Pilialoha. It is a meticulously maintained cottage tucked away in Upcountry Maui. Slow, peaceful, relaxing -- it was so nice to get away from the touristy/resort areas. Extremely spacious, well equipped kitchen, comfy bed, lots of supplies (beach towels, coolers, yoga mats, fleece jackets, ice, etc.) Minutes from Makawao, and a short drive from... More

We stayed for one week (September 2013) and the location was perfect to visit the entire island of Maui. It was nice to be able to "come home" and relax at Pilialoha Cottage and be away from the busy tourist areas. There are nice restaurants and stores within a short drive. We explored Haleakala, made a memorable day drive to... More

This is my second review of Pilialoha. I'm here now and need to say it remains the best place to stay in Maui. We've been coming to Maui for over 15 years and wish that we could let the world know about this place. If coming to Maui, you MUST consider staying here, at least part of the time. Cool... More

We loved this place and really enjoyed our stay there. The cottage is carefully maintained by Machiko with lots of details which make it a home away from home. Machiko and Bill are always available for support if necessary. Otherwise the cottage offers full privacy for the guests. We would recommend the place as a perfectly located spot to start... More

My husband and I stayed at the Pilialoha Cottage for 4 nights and had a fantastic stay. We were provided excellent directions and Machiko was there to greet us when we arrived. The cottage is very well kept, spotless and bug free! There was a delicious fresh fruit platter, raisin bread and milk waiting for us to enjoy. The cottage... More

We have stayed at Machiko and Bill's wonderful cottages several times. As frequent visitors to Maui, we say without hesitation that this is the absolute best on the island. If you like to be away from the crowds and feel the Maui at its best, you must stay here. Fresh flowers in your cottage daily, extremely modern, roomy as all... More

We stayed here for 3 nights - the cottage is wonderful and well kept. We had a full kitchen and were provided milk, juice, fruits and raisin bread on the first day. Machiko and Bill have taken care to ensure that every small need of their guests is met - right from beach towels, ice coolers to condiments for cooking.... More
