The Pono Kai staff was very helpful while we were here. They do try to push certain tours and activitities but you are not required to sign up through them. We found the kayak tour and the movie tour they recommended to be well worth the money but the Kilohana Luau to not be worth the rather pricey charge (the... more

Overall, Pono Kai was very good not excellent. The beach has eroded to the point that a orange safety net is between the resort and the ocean. Therefore, all oceanfront views have this orange barrier in front of the ocean view. Condos were clean and in very good condition. My only pet peeve was internet access; you pay for it... more

This is an older, but well maintained resort. The unit was a decent size; furnishings were old and worn, but clean. The kitchen and bathroom fixtures were also old, but again very clean. The kitchen was well stocked. The lanai was small with plastic furniture, but there was enough room for the five of us to sit out there and... more

For a much older property, the Pono Kai is well kept up and maintained and the grounds are beautiful. The resort is very complex with a number of management companies that manage certain units at the resort, which can be confusing to anyone. Not all the units are the same on the inside it all depends on who manages that... more

Pono Kai is one of only several resorts that is located directly on the beach. Multiple property management companies are located within the resort that "own" certain units in different buildings. Bluegreen offfers a variety of units from mini suites, 1 bedroom, 1 bedroom with loft to 2 bedrooms. We always reserve early and get a unit in buildings A... more

We recently stayed at Pona Kai in a two bedroom unit managed by Marc Resorts. The place was a total pig stye. It was dirty as hell, all kinds of things were broken and in disrepair. Marc Resorts provided absolutely no help and gave no support. They don't care, they just collect your money. FIND ANOTHER PLACE TO STAY. Even... more

My husband and I stayed there for a week during our honeymoon. There was not one ounce of romance in that place! Please trust me when I say don't bother! Only stay there if you have to stay in Kapaa AND this is the only place available! I truely recommend staying in Princeville (on the NE side of the island)... more

The Pono Kai is a ok place if you plan to be busy, and want a central location from which to drive to the northshore, or southshore. It's a very basic collection of condos, and the pool area is very motel-ish, but it is clean, and the staff is very nice. Carmen booked our luau, and a dinner at the... more

Booked this for our family vacation over Christmas. The Condo was a great size for the four of us. This is run by Marc Resorts and NO ONE is ever at the front desk for help. No one was there at check-in and when we did get service our condo was still dirty. We tried 3 times to return our... more
