Our stay at Kakalina's was not a great one. We were able to check into our suite early, which was a nice convenience. However, the cost of this was a brief and less than thorough run through of the place. Our initial impression was that the suite was nicely built, but fairly basic- especially after being spoiled at our last... More

The last thing an innkeeper wants to see is an negative review . In this case the issue stemmed from a mistake the guests made in placing a corded tea kettle on my new ceramic cook top melting the kettle onto the cook top. As a result the kettle was ruined and the cook top took several hours to clean... More

We loved the lush flowers, (see photos) - I took my favorite pictures of her flowers and had huge canvas prints made. I can look at hawaii everyday! I would MUCH rather stay here than a stuffy, overpriced swanky hotel!! Can't beat these prices! Kathy went above and beyond, book our rental car and excurtions for us months before we... More

Wonderful spot, up the hill above the comfortable town of Kapaa. Nice setting in a residential area, well kept, lovely two room and two bath suite. Fresh homegrown flowers and fruit daily, and loaf of banana bread to go with the fresh coffee. Rainy season, so we had showers at night at this higher elevation. Chickens, of course; this is... More

We went to Kauai to celebrate a special event; my girlfriend's 40th birthday. Wanting to stay away from the overly commercialized resorts and hotels that cater to tourists and their generic tastes, we decided to book with a B&B in the "country-side" in an effort to have a more peaceful and authentic Kaua'i experience. While I myself am a native... More

I am very sorry to hear this guest’s disappointing review. When this guest called to book 2 days prior to checking in, I had made previous plans to visit relatives, and offered him a discount for not supplying breakfast daily. He heartily agreed to a lower daily rate with no food. For his 4 night stay, I was on property... More

Here is the straight scoop from someone who has visited the Hawaii islands dozens of times and have stayed at a multitude of places, which include resorts, condos, villas, and bed & breakfasts. If this is your first time to Hawaii, you probably have expectations of staying at an exclusive resort, with a balcony overlooking the ocean, room service, your... More

We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary with a trip to Hawaii, November 14-30, 2011. Stayed 3 days on Oahu, 5 days on Kauai, and 8 days on the Big Island (4 West side, 4 East side). By far the best and most enjoyable accommodations were our 5 nights at Kakalina's Bed and Breakfast. Kathy was most helpful and such a... More

We truly enjoyed our three nights at Kakalina's -- Kathy is a wonderful hostess. The accommodations were spacious and well appointed. The breakfasts were tasty. And the plentiful information on activities and restaurants were very helpful. We want to go back soon!

We selected the Kakalina B&B on Kauai because it offered a two bedroom suite for a very reasonable rate. The B&B is in a quiet neighborhood and Kathy brought fresh fruit and baked breads to the suite daily. She also grows many exotic flowers and can ship them, so we sent a couple packages to friends back home. The location... More

We were two couples spending three nights at this B&B. It was my third time, first was in 1984, second ten years ago, and now again. It has come a long way from the first unit, still lovely, which is underneath the main house. Now there are stand-alone units which are fully equiped, modern and tasttefully decorated. You have privacy,... More

We didn't actually get to travel as expected. However, Kathy was extremely gracious and friendly in dealing both with our reservation and our cancellation. We WILL be heading for Kauai in the future, and Kakalina's will be our first choice for accomodations.
