If you're looking for a plush experience, this is not the hotel for you...If you're looking for a decent place to rest your head after touring the island, then consider the Kauai Sands. We spent our days driving around the island so we really didn't need the "resort experience." The room was clean, the shower pressure was good, and the... more

It is a budget hotel, so if you expect $500 amenties than you will have to go elsewhere. The decor is completely 1970s- Hawaii 5-0 era. Yes, the towels are thin, it didn't bother us. I didn't see any bugs while I was there. The AC worked but we didn't need it since the winds were awesome. The refridgerator worked... more

I stayed at the Kauai Sands Dec 30 to Jan 9, 2008. This was my 20+ time there. I find the staff very helpful, friendly, courteous. I especially like the Lei building, western side (away from the pool)as it is in a good location and had a nice lush garden view. That building is in a serene setting. The desk clerks... more

This was given to me by my timeshare company with the words......it is on the beach. I was there over New Years Eve 2009. The hotel was once a beautiful hotel. In the 70's perhaps or earlier. The bed is SO hard it is impossible to sleep. The NEED new mattresses. Instead they have plywood under the mattress! No space... more

I stayed at the Kauai Sands to fill in a few gap days before I could check into the Marriott at Poipu. The property is definitely showing wear and tear and is in need of a major remodel to bring it up to date. My room was very basic and was neat and clean. It had a lanai with an... more

We just got back from a 6 night vacation in Kauai. We stayed at the Kauai Sands Hotel in Kapaa as part of a package booked through Expedia. Thankfully, I read through the posted reviews so that I was prepared to face bugs, old-fashioned furniture, and strange pool hours. I can't believe that in all the reviews NO ONE mentions... more

When deciding to travel to our neighbor island Kauai, My boyfriend and I had gotten the heads up about Kauai Sands from some friends. We arrived at night so were not able to relax in the pool that closes at 6pm(!). But found our room easy enough. Although after making it to a restaurant in nearby Kapaa, we returned after... more

Advertised as a hotel and basically that is exactly what it is, this isn't a resort /complex. The rooms are a good size, some upgrading needed. Location is excellent, nice beach front and grounds clean and tidy. Rooms cleaned every day, pool a bit small but adequate. Staff ok, no bar, restaurant needs upgrading but ok. Would stay there again... more

The hotel room we had was a king size bed with bug catchers underneath. There are no irons, no coffee makers in the rooms and little bathroom counter space. There is no internet access. NOT a place for a business traveler. The window A/C unit barely kept the room cool at it's highest setting. The restaurant was not open at... more

After reading the previous reviews before leaving and nearly rebooking to another hotel I took the unknown leap into the Kauai Sands Hotel. To be blatantly honest it was a fantastic surprise. After the long 11 hour flight from Australia via Honolulu and at check in( which was very friendly), I was given the opportunity to upgrade to a room... more
