Quite opposite of the last "reviewer" we had a wonderful stay and enjoyed Mark and Sandy (who run it) very much. They are not your average folk and we liked it -- they were real, honest and have a right to be, because they have an amazing spot near the end of a road less traveled. It was clean, there were beautiful trees and plants, it was very open, and there was a short walk to one of the loveliest beaches I have ever spent time on. Hanalei is as mellow of a town as you'll get in Hawaii, and it is relatively nearby, over lots of lovely one way bridges. They allowed us to leave our rental car and gave us a ride to the trailhead of Napali Coast , we felt safe and at home at Kalalau B&B and would recommend it to anyone. Also, they do have a cat who roams around named Leeroy, who is a remarkable creature, but he isn't in the rooms so my allergy was never a problem and he's a nice guy to have around. more

The reason was that he sent me a pretty cryptical e-mail with lots of acronyms, which had to do with various taxes and fees that I eventually realized are commonplace in Hawaii. Americans sometimes do not realize that the rest of the world does not use acronyms as much as they do, and the owner could have been more careful and write an e-mail the rest of us could understand. I replied, asking for further info - especially on the ever-present hawaiian cleaning fee (pretty much every B&B in Hawaii charges it), and he was very rude in his reply, saying something like "these are the conditions, if you... more
