This is a very LATE review. My wife and I stayed here back in 1999. I am sure it has only improved. I picked this placed because it was so secluded and tucked away. I heard that a few movie stars stayed here back in the 1950's as well. Anyways, it was VERY quiet and peaceful. If you want a... more

We stayed in block I on the upper level during our honeymoon. We couldn't have asked for more from our stay here - stunning views from the apartment, and the beach was right on our doorstep. The apartments were fitted out to a high standard - the resort is undergoing some refurbishments so this can only improve the quality. The... more

Oceanfront room ($$$) though unairconditioned was breezy with a beautiful view. The office staff was unfriendly and seemed put out. The housekeeping only comes every third day, ants take advantage of this. Their linen exchange/house keeping desk had limited hours for those who ventured out early or returned after 5pm. The "on site" manager was not on site when we... more

Okay, we were in the A building on the upper floor, it was absolutley magnificent. People, this place is ON the ocean...the buildings are in good shape considering their proximity to the salt spray and wind abuse. We have NEVER been so relaxed...and we have vacationed in some lovely beach towns. Frankly, our experience here has comitted us to retiring... more

We totally fell in love with the Hanalei Colony Resort (www.hcr.com). I know a lot of folks do not like staying so far out of town but we loved it! The entire area reminds us of where we got married: Two Harbors, Catalina Island in southern California at the Banning House Lodge (not Avalon but on the west side). The... more

We spent a fabulous week at the Hanalei Colony Resort. After spending four days in the Poipu and Kokee areas of Kauai we arrived at HCR. When we opened the door to our Ocean front condo, we all said ,"WOW!". This is how we imagined a Hawaiian paradise would be; Ocean and beach framed by palm trees. When we had... more

Recently returned from 5 nights at the HCR and really had a wonderful time. No phones in the room(but we had cell coverage), no A/C (which means no incessant hummmmm), no TV, only the beautiful surroundings and lovely accommodations and the sound of wind and waves. We wanted a low key atmosphere and lovely surroundings and this was it. Gorgeous... more

We spent 7 days on Kauai then 5 on Lanai. The first 4 days were at HCR and it was spectacular. Unbelievable sunrises, laid back attitude of the north shore, close to tunnels and kee beach, limahuli gardens were amazing, the napali coast hiking, and the town of Hanalei felt like we were back in time. Weather was great, actually better... more

The resort is definitely unplugged as it is a 20 min drive from the nearest town. Huge apartments with full kitchen and beautiful views of the beach... the only thing is if the weather is not good (and it wasn't for us, it rained almost all day everyday and the temps are in the 60's) it's quite a trek to... more

HCL is a smallish, quiet condo resort at the extreme end of Kauai's gorgeous north shore. What you give up in accessibility to the rest of the island (it's an hour to Lahui but 10 minutes from cute Hanalei town) you gain in solitude (I walked the nearby beach several times and had it literally all to myself). Full kitchen... more
