We visited Mahina Kai B & B before same-sex marriages were legal there. We found it to be a perfect hideaway with a beautiful Asian flair. Our hosts were very kind and helpful with suggestions as where to dine and spend our time. We truly enjoyed our experience on Kauai, thanks to our wonderful hosts!

Joe was a great host and the area was just what we wanted-away from big chains and lots of stores. While the weather was similar to Seattle, Wa we had some gorgeous days in the North part of the island and other parts were not far away driving wise. Note that you are sharing space with nature you may have... More

I was looking for a place to stay while in Kauai for a few days to take care of some personal business and what I got was a warm welcome, a peaceful surrounding, and pampering from Joe. This could not have been a better experience! If you are looking for a 5-star resort with high-end amenities and fancy restaurants and... More

Review from a straight couple. My wife and I set our sights on Kauai for our "babymoon" and needed a place to stay. Normally we book through Air BnB because we like a casual local vibe instead of the chaotic resort feel. Unfortunately nothing great was coming up so we set our sights on bed and breakfasts. After two unsuccessful... More

Mahina Kai is a lovely bed and breakfast tucked away from any hint of "touristy" crap. It's the authentic Hawaiian Experience with open aired rooms, tropical fruit breakfast (some picked fresh on the property), a short jaunt to a beach unseen by tourists, and a fantastic pool and hot tub surrounded by a lush trees. Yes, you also get the... More

we expected a resort hidden in the nature with all possibilities to enjoy the stay in Kauai. We hoped for a spectacular pool where we could spend the time after visiting all the sights of Kauai and gives us a feeling of paradise. We expected that Joe, the owner, is a host, who gives his guests the feeling that they... More

The rooms are spacious and comfortable with the front rooms having a view of the ocean. The beach is a short walk--the beach is fine to walk on and swim, however, it's not a top notch beach otherwise. The property has a rustic quality to it. There are a number of steps up to the front into the common area/kitchen... More

We had the cottage separate from the main building. Despite one tiny leak in the ceiling during one night of torential rain our stay could not have been more enjoyable. Joe Moore and his staff were a delight: great service, breakfast, and help with dining, hiking and beach options. We would highly recommend! Brian & Sheila

This place is far from a "resort" and "our ocean" as they claim on their website. In short, it's a dump. The smell of sewer as you walk up the steps, insects of all kinds in the rooms, a flea-bitten dog roaming into everyone's rooms, trash stashed under a camper shell near the house, etc. You get the idea. I've... More

I'm sadden when a review really has no merit....The only way to respond to any of his complaints is to say Mini our sweet dog is very welcoming to all guest...We do have Geckos all over Mahina Kai..they are what Hawaiian's consider a good luck charm and live in EVERY building on Kauai...and I had over 6 telephone conversations with...
