This is a very peaceful and beautiful place hidden away in the mountain woods. It is just a 2 minute drive from Volcano National Park. A couple blocks (a mile or so) away are the restaurants and stores located in Volcano town. The town is rather small but does offer everything a traveler would need (gas, food / drinks, hygiene... I made reservation by phone several months before coming. Because it was 42 people capacity and we had our son with us we were charged an extra 25 and night and apparently a $10 a night for mattress pad. When we arrived Friday night I was told and asked to confirm with the unfriendly clerk that the mattress was in... More

My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon in 2013 and returned again for our second trip to Hawaii just a few weeks ago. We really were impressed with the Volcano Hale both times. It's nice to know you can grab a place to stay in Hawaii for less than $80 a night and still get a good night's... More

We stayed in the Volcano Hale building. It was OK. The mattress was pretty sad, but there was lots of hot water in the shared (and clean) bath. The shared kitchen was a plus for fixing our own breakfast. We were on the bottom floor, and it was pretty noisy when folks walked around upstairs. Fortunately there were only three... More

This was my first shared bathroom hotel experience and it was a comfortable one. They provide everything you would need in the bathroom and kitchen. The front desk was nice, the property was very well maintained. The other guests were polite and stayed in their rooms mostly. The room was dated a little but clean and fresh sheets. The main... We stayed in the separate volcano hale building not the main hotel. The room was nice and it was good to have a fully equipped kitchen and meet other travelers. The only downside was the paper thin walls which meant you didn't get a lie in if you were near the kitchen, but otherwise really enjoyed our stay.

This place was perfect for our purpose, which was a clean, comfortable place to spend the night so we could stay late at the volcano and get the pictures we want. We read many of the reviews for Volcano Hale and knew it was "just right." Reasonably priced, we were OK with sharing a bathroom, and though we didn't use... More

The bamboo room was recently remodeled and overall it was good. Construction was going on at the time and the last step to get to the room was high. Breakfast offered was flavored instant oatmeal and coffee. The fruit truck hadn't made it by, so we passed and ate at the Volcano House which was a good move.

Booked our stay on a whim!! Pleasantly surprised on arrival given the budget pricing! Of the three properties advertised Volcano Hale, private rooms/shared bathrooms was the right choice for us! We had a quaint room, in this lovely historic home. The kitchen was a plus, gas stove top that appeared brand new, micro, two coffee makers, wow! every thing we... More

I booked one night in this chalet through expedia. We were basically looking for a place to sleep before going to the National Park next day. Driving through Volcano at night was quite an experience. Due to the intense temperate rain forest it is not a dense urbanization but houses are spread out and there is little light. We arrived... More
