The food is surprisingly good for Volcano which is a SMALL town. Breakfast for 3 is about $40 including tax and tip. Dinner has good variety for around $30 per oerson including a drink or dessert. There were some service failures so don't stop here if you are in a hurry. But, there doesn't seem to be a reason to... More

In the summer we get a lot of walk-ins for dinner and staffing is a little tricky. Thank you for your patience and for writing us pros and cons. We definitely listen! aloha Lorna More

Went on Father's Day as soon as they opened. Had called for reservations, but when we got there, they said they didn't take them for breakfast. Confusing. Anyway, service was attentive and food was really good. Will go back again and again!

I can understand your confusion. Will check with the breakfast staff and see what we can do to avoid further confusion. Thank you for drawing it to our attention! Aloha Lorna More

We stayed at one of the offsite cottages and were thrilled with it. There are actually two cottages included in Pi'i Mauna, separated by a deck with a hot tub. My mother stayed in one, and my husband and son and I in the other, with my son on a queen sized fold-out couch in the living room. Everything was... More

Thank you for your review! The Pi'i Mauna house is a favorite with a lot of our returnees. The star gazing at night is as good as it gets. Star gazing from the hot tub, even better. More

The lodge had quaint rooms with a lodge atmosphere. Certainly nothing grand. The restaurant was very nice and served delicious food so it didnt matter that there were not many restaurants nearby. The lodge was a short drive to the National Park and crater and as that is the attraction for the area it is very convenient

Aloha and mahalo for reviewing the Lodge. Our mission has been to create a traditional Hawaiian hotel of yesteryear. I'm glad you noticed. More

We stayed in the Hale Aloha bldg., just behind the main Kilauea Lodge/restaurant. The room was on the first floor, just off the common room, and very quiet. The room was large, w/ queen bed and wonderful Hawaiian decor.Bathroom simple and clean, w/ filtered rainwater in shower, and bottled water for drinking. The common room has many books, games, and... Staying at Ola'a Plantation House was a very special experience. This beautiful, charming historic home looks and feels Hawaiian - a welcome change to the homogenized hotel rooms. The home has beautiful original features, is *meticulously* maintained, with well-considered modern upgrades such as a gas fireplace, towel warmer, wifi, etc. After a day touring and hiking the park, we thoroughly... Aloha KFitz8, The Ola'a Plantation house is our newest addition to the inventory and is located nearby, a big plus. We restored the house in the style of its heyday, the 1940's. We had a lot of fun refurbishing it. As you noted, my German husband Albert's cooking style is more in the European tradition than nouvelle cuisine. One thing... More

We were lucky enough to get the last room available over Memorial Day weekend. Unfortunately it was only available for one day but we took it anyway. It's our 2nd time staying there. The only downfall was whoever was above us made so much noise throughout the night (swear they were having a dance contest) that we hardly slept. The... More

Mahalo for your response. Volcano is a quiet community in the evening. The room above you may have had an issue with a squeaky board. It would be helpful to learn which room you had. I appreciate your comments. Aloha Lorna More

Stopped in for a late lunch after visiting Volcano Parks. The dining room was very quaint and charming. Waitress was kind but not sure of a couple of questions about menu. Hubby ordered salad and substituted catch of day for the chicken. He liked it very much. I wanted a mango chutney dressing for my house salad but was told... More

Thank you for your feedback. Will check with the kitchen about the soggy bread. I think you had the portobello sandwich which is one of my favorites. I'm sure they can fix that! There's no excuse for a server not to be able to answer your questions. Will check on that. I always order decaf coffee and they brew a... More

We stayed here for two nights as our base to explore the Volcano National Park. We stayed in 'the cottage' a little one bedroom cottage next to the main accommodation block that was built around 100 years ago as the caretakers cottage. It has been nicely renovated while still maintaining the 100 year-old charm. The lodge is only a 3... More

We stayed here 3 nights in order to explore Volcanoes National Park. Glad we had that long, because two of the mornings it rained so hard we could not venture out much. We stayed in the Liko Room, located upstairs in the Hale Aloha building, a very short walk from the main building that houses the restaurant. Very clean and... More

Mahalo for your lovely review. I am always thrilled when someone stays in our area for three nights. There really is so much to experience. Hiking, learning about vulcanology and the fascinating regeneration of plant life on barren lava. Golf, a winery, galleries...Not to mention viewing the live lava after dark. Three days is a wonderful amount of time. Thank... More
