From the moment we walked in, It was evident the staff was confident and proud of the service they were about to provide. We arrived the day after lightning struck the lodge/ restaurant. The restaurant was out of commission (the past evening) due to a lightning induced power failure and the Wifi still out of service. the aforementioned are the... More

We enjoyed our stay here. Albert and Lorna are incredible hosts. There was a power failure from a thunder storm and my teenager was getting restless at night without power. Lorna came to our rescue and invited us to a Hawaiian dinner at their house. Unbeknownst to us, the power had already come on when the dinner started. What a... More

What a crazy evening we had with the lightening and thunder and power outage. Fortunately our house next door was on a different transformer so we had lights and food and internet for the young lady. A totally serendiptious evening and lots of fun with our guests and friends. It was a joy to meet you both! Mahalo Lorna More

Nice garden, nice rooms with hawaiian quilt beddings, nice common areas, great restaurant, hot tub! Baby enjoyed it. found many cool books in the common areas. It's very close to the national park, maybe a 3 min drive to the entrance gate.

Thank you for your review. We've seen a lot of families this summer and it's such a joy! The on property cat Meat Loaf appreciates the extra attention he gets from children. The croquet set and frisbies are happy to be used on our large lawn. Since the Lodge was built as a summer camp for the YMCA, it seems... More

A great choice if you are visiting Kilauea. Includes wonderful full American breakfast each day. Great dining room if you plan to have dinner there as well. Excellent hosts, provided us (me) with a fan as the nights were a bit warm for my taste. Grounds are gorgeous and very well maintained. Rooms are large, as are the bathrooms, and... More

Thank you for your Review. Like much of the North American West Coast, we are experiencing a warmer than normal summer. If the trend keeps up, we will need to install ceiling fans! When Albert and I moved to Volcano, the average summer temperatures were in the 60's. We sold sweatshirts like crazy to guests not expecting a chilly climate.... More

My husband son and I stayed in the Volcano Lodge more than 10 years ago and remember it fondly. Since then, every year we have gone somewhere else in the world to vacation, but when the suggestion of vacationing in Hawaii this August came up this year (2015), I eagerly suggested to my extended family of 16 that we all... Thank you for taking the time to write your thoughts. We have taken your hot water issue seriously and a large "hot water on demand" Rinnai gas heater will be installed this week. Hale Ohia Lane is in an Historic District and we felt furnishing the Ola'a House and Tutu's Place in a style befitting the elegant 40's was appropriate.... More

The Kilauea Lodge is a very convenient and charming spot to stay when visiting Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. It's about 5 minutes from the entrance gate and has an attached restaurant (I believe it does not share ownership of the restaurant). Our rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. They are not new but they are appropriately lodge-like. The grounds are... More

Aloha and Mahalo for your review. Yes when it rains hard (the remnants of Tropical Storm Hilda) the tin roofs that are universal here on the Big Island do make the sound of heavy rain on tin roof. People who grew up here love the sound but if you're not used to it, it can be a distraction. Our light... More

What a happy accident that we found this wonderful place! My husband and I had traveled 15 hours from Southern California to Volcano Village. (We had landed in Kona to save $$, but our accommodations were in Volcano - we had to drive to the opposite side.) Exhausted, we took a nap at our inn and woke at night. It... More

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a rave review. It's funny how a serendiptious encounter can turn a disappointing day into something quite memorable. Our Staff really tries to make a dinner special for our guests. More

The food is surprisingly good for Volcano which is a SMALL town. Breakfast for 3 is about $40 including tax and tip. Dinner has good variety for around $30 per oerson including a drink or dessert. There were some service failures so don't stop here if you are in a hurry. But, there doesn't seem to be a reason to... More

In the summer we get a lot of walk-ins for dinner and staffing is a little tricky. Thank you for your patience and for writing us pros and cons. We definitely listen! aloha Lorna More

Went on Father's Day as soon as they opened. Had called for reservations, but when we got there, they said they didn't take them for breakfast. Confusing. Anyway, service was attentive and food was really good. Will go back again and again!

I can understand your confusion. Will check with the breakfast staff and see what we can do to avoid further confusion. Thank you for drawing it to our attention! Aloha Lorna More

We stayed at one of the offsite cottages and were thrilled with it. There are actually two cottages included in Pi'i Mauna, separated by a deck with a hot tub. My mother stayed in one, and my husband and son and I in the other, with my son on a queen sized fold-out couch in the living room. Everything was... More

Thank you for your review! The Pi'i Mauna house is a favorite with a lot of our returnees. The star gazing at night is as good as it gets. Star gazing from the hot tub, even better. More
