This was a lovely, quaint place in the middle of a lush rain forest very close to Volcano Village. The flowers all around were amazing. The hot tub in an enclosed area was a delight. For breakfast, there was good coffee, fresh fruit, cereal and rolls. This was a quiet, delightful place to stay.

After 6 nights in a Kona time share, my friend and I opted to stay at Volcano House for 2 nights. this provided a balance needed when visiting Hawaii. The location is near the volcano and the cabins are rustic but complete. The property is managed with ecology in mind. Lots of recycling and solar heating. The owners have been... More

The Volcano Guest House is close to the park so very convienent. We liked the grounds, lots of plants, quiet. My husband, son and I stayed in The Cottage for two nights, it was very spacious. The rooms were clean but kind of old and worn out. The main bed in our house was very uncomfortable, it took a couple... More

My daughter and I chose the Volcano Guest House out on the internet living 2,500 miles apart. (She lives in Kailua-Kona, I live in LosAngeles, CA.) The Trip Advisor was a big help in making the perfect choice. The owners are super nice and helpful. Our Upstairs Room was as pictured only better! The pictures don't capture the roominess and... We really enjoyed our stay at Volcano Guest House. The owners were responsive to email from the very beginning, and accommodated our later check-in time. We stayed in Twin II, which was cosy, clean and equipped with everything we needed. The property was quiet and safe, and we had a lot of privacy. Breakfast was mostly self-serve, but the range... Despite a regular drizzle each morning & evening and the Volcano NP closed due to Govn't Shutdown we certainly enjoyed our little Twin II cottage. Surrounded by lush vegetation, tiny birds flitting in the canopy and lots of fresh air it was such a nice getaway spot. Not for those who want a high-end resort style B & B, but... More

warmhearted hosts, peaceful place, good situated (10 min from the NP, 5 min. to the village) The cottage has all you need and is lovingly furnished. The breakfast was good, there was everything we needed. We (3 people) loved especially the fresh fruits bananas and papayas. The best thing is that you are in the middle of the rainforest and... Beautiful setting and peaceful. Good location for Volcano NP. We stayed in the Cottage. Breakfast was disappointing after having lovely fresh fruit and yoghurt at our last place of stay in Hilo before going to Volcano. We didn't get a set of keys to lock our door but didn't worry about it in the end as the place seemed safe... More

We rented the Akala guest house for five adults; it allowed us to have a good 'home base' for exploring volcano national park. The breakfast lanai offered sufficient 'self serve' breakfast and snacks (cinnamon bread, fruit, cereal - the basics). Like all structures in such a climate, the rain forest is eager to 'take it back' and there is some... More
