What a peaceful, quiet rainforest setting up in the coolness of Volcano village. Kate's cottage is great for a couple with king bed and just about everything you need, even gladwrap and ziplock bags for lunches, plastic containers to take lunches out each day etc. We cooked most of our meals and the kitchen had everything. Check out the shower... more

Kate's Cottage continues to be a lovely retreat in a beautiful rainforest. The cottage is so well equipped with many amenities (flashlights, CD's, hairdryer, bandages, umbrellas, a coffee grinder, etc). Kathryn, the owner does such an excellent job acquainting you with the area and tells you so much, it makes you wish you were staying for a whole week!! We... more

I found Kahi Malu during an online search and had my travel agent book it for the first part of our stay on Hawaii. This was a wonderful place for our family to retreat to after a day exploring the island. There were ample choices for breakfast (cook your own eggs, toast yummy bread, eat a sweet roll), comfortable beds... more

We have just returned from our trip around the Big Island and we stayed at Kate's new place on Wright Road which was a steal at $100 a night ($222.82 for two nights with tax). It was clean and had a sort of eclectic modern European meets Polynesian circa 70's design. A little hard to find at night, but you... more

This was our third visit to Kate's Cottage (we've also stayed in the Bungalow once). As always, it was wonderful. You won't find a more lovingly-kept, beautiful place to stay for this price anywhere in the country. Kathryn is an exceptional hostess -- she truly cares for her guests, and for her cottages. A bonus -- there's a brand-new bathroom... more

Wow! What a beautiful cottage to stay in! Kathryn has not overlooked one detail when it comes to this beautiful little bungalow. The electric blankets on the bed were wonderful when it got chilly (and it does get chilly in Volcano). The bathroom is beautiful, although the shower is a bit weak. They are working on the water pressure issue.... more

Based on very positive reviews given to Tripadvisor, we spent two nights in early December 07 at Kahi Malu cottage. The experience exceeded our expectations. The two bedroom cottage was perfect for two couples: clean, comfortable, informal, and close to the Park. The special attention given by Kathryn, co-owner, was especially appreciated. Without my asking, Kathryn provided gluten-free food that... more

I stayed here for a couple of nights at the beginning of November. An excellent accommodation for the cost. The cottage is very well stocked - everything from condiments, Glad bags, bathroom supplies, torches, maps and books of local interest. The open-to-air dining area was my favourite spot in the studio - wooden surrounds, table and a very comfy corner... more

We stayed @ Kate's Kahi Malu for 2 very short nights (Oct 1-3). The cottage is beautiful, clean and comfortable! Kate is a very gracious & informative host. She provides practically everything that you can think of for your stay. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything. The scones and banana bread are delicious! Eggs, butter, juice, jelly, & milk... more

Spent two nights at Kate's "Kahi Malu" here and loved it – the cottage is fresh, clean, spacious and complete with all equipment to ensure the most comfortable stay. The master bedroom was huge, the bed pure relaxation, and the little fireplace a cosy accompaniment to our pre-dawn coffees, when the temperature was chilly. Kathryn is a font of local... more
