We stayed at Toad Hall in January for three nights. Wanted to really get to know the National Park. On other visit we had just driven from Kona, barely taken a look at the volcano, and had to make the long drive home. This time, we wanted a more relaxed trip. The cottage was a cute log cabin with a Beatrix Potter english country feel. We were FREEZING when we got there and came into a warm house that smelled like campfires. Left us lots of small wood and fires bricks to get the fire going fast. Lots of good comfy beds, (bed in the kids room better than master). It would be nice if they fixed the water situation (water is not drinkable, has iron smell) but they provided lots of bottled water. Good coffee and breakfast things provided--fresh guavas from a family farm were awesome!! Saw nene geese in the morning, wild turkeys roosting high in a tree! more
