Our family of three (including a 12-year-old) loved everything about Hale Anuhea, a cottage managed by Joan Earley of the Country Goose Bed and Breakfast. Surroundings: The cottage, located on a quiet fern-lined street, feels very secluded and private. Yet it’s just across the street and kitty-corner to the Country Goose, where Joan serves delicious and plentiful breakfasts. The “first... more

We first visited the Country Goose 8 years ago on our adventure to explore the Big Island by bike (the 300 mile perimeter) and by foot (the Mauna Loa trail). Joan, the innkeeper, couldn't have been more accommodating. She offered valuable advice and stored our bikes when we hiked, and our backpacks when we biked. We literally couldn't have completed... more

My first trip to Hawaii was in Oct. of 2007 and we stayed at the Country Goose Bed and Breakfast, let me tell you it was awesom. Everything from the room to the breakfast was first class and Joan is most friendly and knowlegable person around. She can tell you about every hiking trail and every must see point of... more

My cousin and I traveled for the first time to the Big Island and stayed at the Country Goose Bed and Breakfast. What an awesome experience. Every morning we had a home made full breakfast with fresh fruit from the island. We met people from around the world; Scotland, New York, Pennsylvania; Canada. Each morning everyone would share their adventrues... more

Stayed at Joan's Country Goose for 2 days while exploring Volcano National Park. Rented the downstairs room with queen bed, which is fully furnished and comfortable. Joan served tummy filling breakfasts while we chatted about things to do and see on the island. The B&B is only 5 minutes from the park and about 30 minutes to Hilo. more

My husband and I just returned from 11 days on the Big Island. We spent 3 nights at the Country Goose. We stayed at the Hale Oma'O cottage. It is located in a fern forest. Joan Early was a very gracious hostess and her breakfasts were delicious. We enjoyed visiting with other guests from Utah and Texas . The cottage... more

I've stayed with Joan three times now and each time has been a wonderful stay. The breakfasts are great; Joan knows everybody and everything and you can't find a more charming place to stay on the Big Island! Highly recommend this place; book early and often! more

Five of us stayed at the Hale Anuhea for two nights, November 13 to 15. This is a virtually brand new 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom cottage, with state of the art everything - from three flat screen TVs to modern LG washer dryer, scented candles (battery operated - don't try to light them like I did), remote operated propane fireplaces... more

First of all, I was resisting writing this review because part of me doesn't want this secret to get out! My partner and I stayed in the Hale Iki cottage, which is one of the Country Goose's "remote" houses. As other reviews mentioned, you really are out in a private part of the beautiful rain forest. Just pulling up to... more

Staying in Hilo, Hawaii was just incredible. It was raining every morning but drive 30 minutes out of Hilo, then there was the beautiful sunshine. We were told rains stops at 10:00 am and sure it was. My family and I drove to Kona to explore and yet we didn't find the same atmosphere as Hilo. People were very hospitable... more
