Volcano Rainforest Retreat was excellent. We stayed in the 'forest house' house adjacent to the main building - all you can see from the accommodation is rainforest, beautiful and serene! The provisions for breakfast are excellent and the muesli divine! The beds were comfortable and the spa poor clean and private. We could not fault our hosts, who were very... More

This was one of the most memorable stays of my life, anywhere. My wife and I stayed for two nights on our honeymoon at the Forest House. I'm not sure how to describe the experience of walking up to our little cottage other than "otherworldly." You go through a beautifully maintained rainforest path, and there it is - a lovely... More

Volcano Rainforest Retreat was awesome! I took my boyfriend there for a one night stay as an early birthday present. They are really close to Volcanoes National Park, so we were able to visit there first and get in a nice hike before checking in. At check in, the manager was very friendly and gave us a nice overview of... More

We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. That Japanese Furo is great after a long day in the Park. We do have one in our Bamboo Guest House as well and the Guest Cottage and Forest House both share a hot tub. More

We stayed for 2 nights in the Sanctuary and we loved it! Truly a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the lush rainforest. All the details were thought through in the decor and in the space set up. We loved the experience of showering outdoors and the hot tub soak after days of hiking. The breakfast was fine - not... More

Thanks for visiting us and enjoying our Sanctuary! We buy breakfast goodies from local chefs and source local fruit for our guests to fuel up before their morning hike in the park. More

We stayed 3 nights in the Sanctuary. It is not a large space, but there is ample room to get around (although the bathroom is narrow!). You definitely feel like you're in a rainforest, and despite the large windows you don't feel like anyone else is around. The breakfasts were just wonderful and were our 2nd favourite feature. The best... More

Aloha Laura and Steve, So glad you enjoyed your stay with us and that the outdoor shower and soaking tub were a special delight! The Sanctuary was designed with the intent of experiencing the natural beauty of the rainforest in the most intimate way, in full sunshine, fog, mist or rain! We value your note about the parking. We stayed one night in the Volcano Rainforest Retreat. We had spent our first three nights in Waikoloa, but it wasn't until we checked in here that we felt like we were on vacation. The grounds are beautiful and lush and each room is unique. The staff was so friendly and helpful, we felt very comfortable and relaxed right away.... More

Aloha IAS-KC, We greatly appreciate the time and effort taken to provide us with valuable feedback! Our cottages are designed to occupy as little a footprint as possible in the native Hawaiian old growth rainforest. As a result, our cottages are equipped with unique and eco-friendly and water conscious amenities. We deeply regret any inconvenience you experienced. We have since... More

We spent two nights in the Forest House and will never forget the place or the hosts, Peter and Kathleen, a warm and welcoming couple who have created an amazing piece of paradise. The craftsmanship of the cottage, the attention to detail in every aspect and their impeccable good taste make this one of the most unique and enjoyable places... More

We drove up the private driveway to our little cottage and checked out of the world! We loved it for all of the reasons reviewers have already explained here, complete privacy, comfy bed, fireplace, windows out-looking gorgeous rainforest foliage, wonderful local food and a great drivable location for the Volcano, Hilo, and the Volcano Village. There are so many little... More

This was our second trip to VRR—and certainly not our last! This place is truly special. Don’t think of this as a bed and breakfast with common areas where you meet other travelers or gorge on giant hot breakfasts (not that those are bad things!). This is a quiet, peaceful retreat where I can feel the tension in my shoulders... More

My husband and I spent two nights in the Bamboo Guest Cottage and had a lovely stay. The cottage itself is quiet and beautiful, and we loved the skylights, the music and dvds available (no tv or cable), and the Japanese o'furu in the back garden. It worked well for us having a full kitchen, as we are vegan and... More
