This was a lovely place to stay. My husband and I loved it from the minute we arrived. The grounds were impressive and impeccable and the rooms were tastefully decorated in keeping with the historic style of the building. It was also very private and quiet. We were on our honeymoon and wanted to be with each other rather than... more

We loved this place right away, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We'll definitely try to return one day. Michael Tuttle's friendly and attentive service helped make our stay very comfortable and made us feel extremely welcome. Plus... Dixon was awesome! Proximity to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is another really nice feature. We highly recommend Hale Ohia Cottages! more

The Hale Ohia B & B is on one of the most beautiful pieces of property in the village of Volcano. The location is great, very close to the entrance of Volcanoes National Park and easy to find, right off the highway (if you follow directions). The grounds are beautifully landscaped and had we stayed here longer I am sure... more

We had cottage #44 and it was excellent. Cottage was clean, decor tastefully done, very relaxing and private. Althought our last night we had some noisey neighbors, we had to go outside and ask them to keep it down. Thankfully they did. Otherwise we loved our stay here. The manager baked his own delicious bread for our breakfast each morning... more

My family of four stayed in the Ohia cottage for two nights in late December. I believe it’s the largest cottage on the property. It was just like we were staying in someone’s home. The full kitchen on the first floor came in handy, especially the refrigerator. We used it to store the picnic lunches we ate while exploring the... more

My boyfriend and I stayed for (sadly) only one night in #44 - certainly the coolest "hotel room" I've ever stayed in. The location is just removed enough so all we heard in the morning were the birds, but we could drive to Hilo in half an hour, or into Volcanoes National Park to hike and explore. After a day... more

My wife and I stayed here for 3 days during our recent 10th anniversary trip. The owner was nice, and tried to be as helpful as possible. The breakfast was alright. The location was very close to Volcanoes National park, but with the lava not flowing over ground, that might not be as much of a positive. We are not... more

Thank God we only booked one night here! Originally we had planned to stay in Volcano for two nights but our plans changed. We arrived and Mike checked us in, complaining that the tourists didn't know their left from their right, in terms of locating the inn. He met us over at the cottage to show us where to park,... more

This is the second time we have stayed at Cottage 44, and it is simply wonderful. The cottage itself is very cozy and romantic, the breakfast is great, and the proprieter and staff are helpful. An added bonus was quality time with Dixon, the resident cat. I can't imagine staying anywhere else around the volcano. more

Stayed for 2 nights to visit Volcanoes NP - weather was very disappointing - apparently hadn't rained all summer but day we arrvived it poured pretty much for 2 days solid and wind shifted so we couldn't visit the lava viewing area - not Hale's fault of course Accomodation was pretty nice - very helpful owner on information and he... more
