This is the third time we have stayed at Carson's in the last decade. The first was when the Carson's owned the place and we had a magical experience, with wonderful cooked breakfast, lovely, cared-for rooms, and fireplace lit in the main house at breakfast. The second time was just after the new owner took over--still nice but not as... more

This bed in breakfast was a fantastic find! The cottage was private, comfortable, and uniquely decorated in a Hawaiian monarchy theme. The grounds are very secluded and absolutely gorgeous! Our host, Bill, was extremely hospitable and each morning served up a wonderful continental breakfast, including several exotic island fruits, delicious homemade coffeecakes and a variety of cereals, breads, yogurt, and... more

Bill was very friendly and accommadating. The cottage was dreamy and in a fairy tale setting. Be sure to have a car as you can not walk any where, but it is close to Volcano National Park and centrally located on the island. We flew in to Hilo and toured that side of the island, and then toured the other... more

This place was an absolute nightmare. I knew we were in trouble the minute we had to pay in full before we even entered the place. When we did enter, it smelled like mold and mildew. There were even white stringy things hanging down from the ceiling of our room. It was so creepy. Our first night there, some other... more

The level of comfort of the room we rented in the main house was grossly below standards: no proper heating, no ventilation during the day to dry out the very high moisture, unclean and smelly bed sheets, no straightening of the bed or cleaning of the bathroom, a worn-out TV set, etc. The arrogance of the manager, showing very little... more

We stayed in Nick's Cabin and found the place to be cozy and comfortable. The grounds are tropical and lush and the cabin cute as a button. The Volcano area is typically cool and rainy, so we knew to expect these conditions. The cabin had a fireplace, a small space heater, and extra blankets, so we were dry and toasty!... more

Okay..first thing, this place was rated as a favorite in a travel book of which I am also writing an email. Description nice. Outside view and surroundings nice but to stay in place would be a no-no. This is not the original owners that got such rave reviews but the current owners either have not got a clue or they... more

We stayed at Carson's on October 30, 2008 for the first and LAST time! I was thrilled as we drove up the forest lined lane to find a beautiful lodge with a homey front porch awaiting us. We were late to check in, but had an envelope with our key and a map to our room in a basket on... more

I was really pumped up to stay here after reading travel books and looking at the web sit. Cute dining room with dishes and homey stuff all over. Was I wrong!! The web site is very deceiving. The extensive buffet breakfast was a daily series of boxed cake mixes, a few pieces of fruit and a few boxes of cereal.... more

Carson's was probably the perfect place from which to explore the national park. Start off with a great breakfast, then drive to the park for a day of hiking. At night, come back to a warm bed and do it all again! Carson's was overbooked when we stayed, so we had to stay in a different room two consecutive nights.... more
