Normally our travels are not geared towards the local B&B market because it is usually late when you arrive and mostly too late to make any other plans. This time we had a very pleasant surprise. The Hale Moana B&B in the Pahoa region was in our opinion all it advertised to be and then some. The property is super... More

Pahoa is off the beaten path for most tourists. The B&B property has beautiful gardens and the rooms are large though a bit "tired". Petra is a gracious host and provided us with detailed maps and suggestions for activities which helped us get the most out of our time. If you snorkel or just want to enjoy the views, take... More

We had a lovely stay in the Pahoa region of Hawai'i. Petra (the owner) was a great hostess, served wonderful breakfasts and has lovely grounds. Excellent beds, very clean and comfortable rooms. Excellent in all respects. Her knowledge of the area helped us plan day excursions. The Hawai'i travel book called Hawaii Revealed has little to say about this area.

This is a friendly, comfortable place that is set in lavish grounds that would rival most tropical botanic gardens! Our garden suite was roomy and comfortable. We stayed in the Garden Suite which had a well appointed kitchenette. Petra is a remarkable host! Excellent communication before our visit and she is a gracious host as well as having a fantastic... The hosts were very pleasant, great cooks and very accommodating. It's quite remote, so we expected it would be very quiet, but then the nocturnal coqui frogs struck up and it was a noise we had to get used to. Not the fault of the B&B but certainly a noticeable sound all night. The grounds are gorgeous, and we enjoyed... More

Greatly enjoyed our brief stay in the Garden Suite at Hale Moana with its glorious tropical garden, nightly chorus of tree frogs, excellent breakfasts and very warm hospitality of Petra. Garden Suite is excellent with capacity for evening self-catering and very reasonably priced. We much prefer the quieter, less developed eastern side of the island is -close to Volcano NP... More

My boyfriend and I spent one night on the East side of the island during our trip to better visit the volcano, lava tubes, and Hilo - and Hale Moana was perfect! We were booked for the Makamae studio but were upgraded to one of the suites when we arrived (yay!). Our room was spacious and beautiful and private. The... More

This well located b&b near pahoa is in a safe pleasant neighborhood and has extensive lush tropical gardens. Ou host Petra loaned our family of five snorkel equipment. Southeast hawaii coast is minutes away and volcanoes national park is forty minutes. Excellent value. Big suite upstairs is worth the slight extra cost.

This was our second visit to Hale Moana in 3 years. My husband and I had eagerly anticipated the return and, three days ago, were again rewarded with the attractive clean reasonably priced room, the warm welcome by Petra, the delicious breakfasts, and the nighly music of the frogs! Early every morning, I was entranced by the beautiful garden in... More

My husband and I spent three nights at the Hale Moana in December and had a wonderful time. The tropical garden is amazing, and the breakfasts were delicious. Petra is a wonderful hostess. We enjoyed chatting with her each morning over breakfast, and we took advantage of two of her restaurant recommendations--Kaleo's and Ning's--both of which were excellent. We stayed... More
