Great B&B! Petra is very welcoming. She gave us good tips about the area (+ maps, snorkeling gear, flashlights...) and we enjoyed her breakfast. Our room (the studio) was very comfortable and clean (I love the big bottles of shampoo and conditioner in the shower! Way better/greener than using small hotel-style bottles). Listening to the sound of nature at night... More

This was a great little find in a quiet, secluded area. The grounds were amazingly immaculate. This was a great place as we saw many of the sites on the East, South and even the West side of the Big Island. Petra was an unbelievablely gracious host and was very helpful. She provided us with a lot of local knowledge... More

We recently stayed two nights with Petra. We stayed in the Makame room which we found somewhat small. It was however, equipped with all the necessities. Petra was very friendly and helpful with information about the general area. The breakfast was yummy...one day banana fritters, the other vegetable omlet. She prepared these herself. One thing.....as a suggestion would be to... More

The top reason to stay here is the location. You are within easy reach (less than 20 min) of some really unique snorkeling and beach spots, like the Kapoho Tide Pools, and the geothermal ocean pool at Ahalanui Park. You are also 5 min from Lava Tree State Park, and within easy reach of Hilo and some of the great... More

Aloha to Future Visitors and the friends of Hale Moana Bed & Breakfast, I would like to thank Lauren and Kevin for their review, but also wanted to take the opportunity to respond to the portion where they are request/suggesting more flexibility with check-in and breakfast times. The satisfaction of my customers has a top priority for me. However, I... More

It's a paradise in Hawaii. I had the chance to stay a 2nd time here for 10 nights and loved it again. Petra is looking after each guest to make sure that no wishes remain open. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. It's an easy going / relaxed atmosphere. The house is close to the Volcano Nationalpark and my... More

We had never stayed in a B&B and didn't know what to expect but wanted to stay on this side of the island to explore Volcanoes National Park and Hilo without being rushed. We booked one night in the Makamae Suite and arrived right at the check in time. Unfortunately, no one was home so we wandered the grounds until... More

Petra is a wonderful host. We've been to the Big Island several times, but thanks to Petra's inside knowledge we've found new favorite places. Her breakfasts are beyond delicious and very generous. She goes out of her way to make your stay special. We stayed in the studio 2 nights and then moved to the garden suite. The beds in... More

The Hale Moana Lanai Suite was the perfect fit for our family - 2 adults and 3 kids. We stayed at 3 different B&B's and this one felt like our Hawaii Home ~ we would definitely return!! A true feel of the Big Island rain forest with the warm weather and warm scattered showers, the surrounding sound of tree frogs... More

super stay at hale moana... first glimpse of the island was from here and thanks to Petra's daily sensible and up to date touristic advice and tips, we enjoyed every minute of it. Very nice (but frugal) breakfasts & clean rooms. Professional service and cheerful welcome. Mahalo, Petra!
