For our 1st night at the Hale Moana B&B, we stayed in an upstairs suite. It was spacious and well-appointed, with a nice view over the beautiful garden. It also had a full kitchen, which, however, we didn’t use. Our subsequent 4 nights were in a “studio” just below. It was small, no kitchen and no view. The bed was... More

My wife and I were planning on spending a few days on the East (Hilo) side of the Big Island as part of our honeymoon. We were looking for a nice, quiet location that would be close to the attractions in the area. Hale Moana was just that. It is a little off the beaten path in Pahoa, but it... More

Hale Moana provided a very nice room and a large beautifully manicured yard. There had been strong winds, trees were down blocking roads, power and internet were out and cell phone reception was close to non-existent. When we arrived Petra indicated that her gas generator would take care of power. When I took a shower an hour later it was... More

HaleMoana, Owner at Hale Moana Bed & Breakfast, responded to this review

I would like to take the opportunity to respond to the guests' feedback: On February 14, 2015 strong winds caused substantial damage to an area that had just gone through a hurricane a few months earlier in August 2014. This recent storm interrupted power, telephone and cell services for over 5,000 households. The power for us was off for 3... More

We arrived at Hilo airport on a VERY windy day. The directions to Hale Moana were excellent and Petra had left all ready for us to check in if she was not at home. That night there was a terrible storm and power lines and phone lines were down in a large area around Pahoa, including Leilani Estates where Hale... More

We stayed in the Pualani Suite for 4 nights in early February. We also agree with all of the comments about this comfortable place and the gracious hostess, Petra. We originally booked 6 nights through Hotels.com but there was some mixup and wound up with just 4 nights which turned out to be the perfect length of stay for us.... More

Early February, 2015 and we've just returned from our second trip to the big island. After our first stay with Petra there was never any question that we would re-live the experience, and she was as always a gracious, knowledgeable and genuinely friendly hostess who really likes what she does. Everything that has been written by other reviewers (I read... More

Petra was an extremely friendly host and provided lots of travel information and a very nice breakfast. She is an excellent gardner and her property reflects her skill. Close to Pahoa where there are several restaurants for dinner. Great place to stay!

Petra and her Hale Moana B&B were a true and peaceful delight in an Hawaiian paradise. She is a gracious, warm and most helpful hostess with a luscious breakfast each morning and knowledgeable, excellent recommendations with street maps for the area. The grounds are a beautiful, exotic garden, all making for a most enjoyable experience and highly recommended!

The reviews I read here did not stir us wrong. My fiancé and I stayed at the Lanai suite for 5 days. First of all, Petra is not just a B&B operator but she is a wonderful hostess and cook. We looked forward to breakfast every morning. We took our time to eat our breakfast drink our coffee, listen to... More

We stayed here Dec. 10 and 11th, 2014 in the Lanai Suite. If I had to describe our stay in one word it would be relaxing. I wish we could have spent more time lounging in this place, but it ended up being our oasis at the end of two very long days. We were only lucky enough to breakfast... More
