My husband and I stayed at the Hale Moana for 2 nights in August as we explored the East side of the Big Island and Volcanoes National Park. We booked the Makamae Studio for the two of us. The room isn't huge, but there was enough room for us to stay comfortably and the bed was comfortable. Petra was an... More

Everything about this B&B is perfect: the house, the rooms (even our tiny room made us feel at home immediately - the other rooms are way bigger), the gardens, the cats ;), the breakfast and not to forget - Petra, the host. The location is absolutely ideal to explore the east of Big Island with its volcano, lava and beautiful... More

As a family of 4, we stayed at the Hale Moana for 4 nights, in the family suite (comfortable beds, and plenty of space with the exception of a single too-small-for-4 bathroom). The filling and delicious breakfasts were a great foundation for each day, and we really appreciated Petra taking the time each morning to go over maps and options... More

Very nice Bed&Breakfast conveniently located about 30 minutes from Hilo Airport and 30 minutes from Volcano National Park. The host, Petra, is very friendly and had lots of helpful information on about the locations that we could see in the region and good restaurant recommendations in the village. And the breakfast in the morning was just perfect!

We stayed in Hale Moana B&B for 5 nights and it was the best accommodation we had on Big Island. Due to peak season and our late booking, we had to move rooms 3 times but all without any troubles. Prior to our arrival, Petra was extremely helpful and went out of her way to check information for us and... More

It took us between 45min and 1h to reach the place from Hilo airport. We had the garden suite and it was perfect for a family with 2 younger kids. The garden is huge and there're plenty of exotic fruits which invite kids for some harvesting activities :-) For breakfast there're always a lot of fruits and loads of american... More

My wife and I stayed at the end of June 2014 - we are just finishing our tour of Hawaii (second time in two years) and the Hale Moana Hawaii B&B has been the best. From now on won't bother with hotels. Staying here was a great experience. Very clean accommodation quarters, gluten-free friendly (finally somewhere), spacious car-parking, FREE wireless... More

If you are looking for a place to stay on the east side of the island, you should consider this place as an option. My family stayed here for a couple of nights and it worked out great. It's a little bit over 30min drive to Hilo and Volcano but it's worth the drive. From the gracious host - Petra,... More

Hale Moana B&B it's a great place to stay, it is close to hot spring natural pool, snorkeling locations, black sand beach and not too far from the volcano national park. Petra, the owner, is lovely and very helpful in anything you might need during your stay and also makes the best breakfast, with variety of tropical fruits, bread, cereal,... More

We stayed at Hale Moana for 2 nights. We found the location to be great (we loved Pahoa), the huge garden was gorgeous (the owner did it all herself), and the breakfast was the best we had during our whole trip (we stayed at 3 other locations afterwards). The breakfast had an assortment of different things, including coffee and tea.... More
